Coin Photography

I'd like to get into coin and stamp photography more and have been reading about ring flashes and macro lenses.

What I'd like to hear is what setups you guys use and anyone using a canon EOS 600D especially what to use.

I've seen ring flashes on ebay for $50 bucks will they cut it?
