There is a scratch just above the left whiskers. Why did they choose to add the scratch into the minting?

On the right side if you're looking at it? Based on the picture from the OP, it looks like it's actually intentional. At least I hope so...

How is this coin doing in terms of resale value?

Looking on ebay, seems like I'm somewhere between a $30 loss and break-even at the moment. Not seeing any Australian sales however, they are all from Europe/North America.

The series has been flooded with fakes....tons of the last Manul issue were sold and continue to be sold on eBay from China or from zero feedback sellers in the US who were undoubtedly selling fakes. The problem is it drives the price down for legitimate sellers who really have the real thing.

Check out the completed listings here.

For that reason alone I won't be buying the series any longer.

Seems like the problem of fakes is going to be a problem for most coins, so I'm not really sure that you can avoid it. I'm just looking at the fake redback bullion and shark coins, etc. If it's worthwhile faking a $15 coin, you'd think that any coin with decent demand for prices over $20 are going to be faked as well...

I have arrived in Australia and in Melbourne at the moment so managed to go to Downies in South Bank. Felt like a kid at Christmas! I have always had to order online to South Africa (extra for shipping and import duties), so to be able to be in the actual coin shop was absolutely awesome.

Anyways, Downies have a sale at the moment (ends tommorow) and I got the Hamster coin for less 10% so paid $175. They only had 2, I bought one, so there is still one left in the store.

yes, looks like it might (hard to tell in this light, will have a better look tommorow) but it certainly does not look as pronounced as yours but I think thats just the macro bringing out the details. I will try and take a macro shot at some stage and post it to compare

Fakes on this series is a problem. I got my hedgehog @300 in the past.
If you look back there was a hugh hype.
as there are too many fakes on ebay it is hard to sell them.
Keep your invoice from a reputable coinshop so you have a better chance in case of selling it.
If there is anybody after a real piece, let me know

This series was definitely first-of-a-kind. Still in demand (I actually bought 2 hamsters), but it is difficult to compete with tons of fakes.
If somebody is keen to refresh their collections, I have a few spare hedgehogs and goats.

Yeah, fakes are on thing...all coins have them..... but this one in particular seems overrun with fakes on eBay. Not sure why but it will be very hard to sell them while this is the situation.

And eBay decides to do nothing about it.

As long as both buyer and seller are happy, their main concern is taking fee from the transactions, that is their drives for business(earn money and keep growing)
