China food production issues....

Just read an article published by Judicial Watch in the US which talks about Trump booting the Chinese out of the world's second largest port "Long Beach Port" which Obama (Barry to his mates) leased to the Chinese via a HK company for 40 odd years...sounds a tag like what happened with Darwin Port a few years back.....Anyhoo, Trump forced them to sell it and it was bought by Macquarie Bank's assets mgmt arm.....all this happened back in April this year and not a word in the press.

I wish our politicians had the spine to stand up to the PRC the way Trump does.

Now word comes down that Hillary is eyeing 2020.

It's like watching a reality version of The Walking Dead with Hillary's withered claw snaking out of a pile of mouldy Democrat bunting and grabbing Trump's ankle.

Water is a non issue for food production.
Portable water can be filtered easily.

in modern developed society a city or country running out of water is just bad management

This is true but reverse osmosis is not cheap and uses electricity. It might be fine to support small populations of a couple million people or tens of millions but not feasible for countries with a billion people like what you have in India.

Most solutions can’t work for long when you have too many people.

Reverse osmosis is cheap compared to lack of water.
Any country can do it, even India could do it forever.
The country you live in has been doing it, also remember it’s not all or nothing, filtered or RO treatment is to supplement existing water and with global warming more countries will get higher rainfall.

Also what I or you would consider potable water is different to what Indians would consider drinkable water and would be cheaper to produce and water for farming would be even cheaper.

Yes, of course, not just sea water. In Singapore even sewage water is all recycled. No water is wasted. This is why we need to further filter the water at home using carbon filters. It adds to the cost, not to mention the trouble.

In Singapore, water is almost as expensive as electricity, I believe it is the same as in Perth, not sure about Sydney. Water is an expensive resource. As you said future wars in Asia will be fought over control of rivers, and not over land as most would believe.

Singapore government can reduce the cost of producing water overnight by reducing the quality of water.
The issue of cost is what are Singaporean’s willing to accept.

As for cost.....
water in Jakarta that support millions of Indonesian
bore water that cows and people in Outback Australia towns drink
Both would be unacceptable to Singaporean or in Australian cities but it would much cheaper.

Don't forget that people in Japan have another culture and mentality. Also they are bought up in a different way. Speaking about jail, people in various countries want to go there instead of living on the streets.

hospitals are free for elderly in japan, problem is that a health check will give them an unwanted ticket out.....
also jails for non violent crimes isn’t that much worse, some are better than low cost seniors housing, with free food, in house house keeping and medical service.

It's odd what's happening with food in general. Food price increases, food scarcity spreads in small steps. It is happening, just that people don't even notice the scarcity.

I'm facing both in my area: some types of foods aren't available all the times (there are "gap" periods when they just don't have them and perhaps the shop workers don't know why/what is happening).

The scarcity I'm reffering to: have you ever noticed that one particular food just "disappears" or only a few packages/boxes/cans are left? And it drags on and on for days... then they refill the shelves.

...then another product disappears. And no, it's not "marketing", not because the shop would want the other products to sell, it's because of something else...

Happens quite often with fruits, vegetables, olives, fish, seafood in general, but also with eggs, meat etc.

Never noticed this happening with the more "fake" and "less food" products: sweets, drinks etc. They'd just mix a bunch of E111 with E777, add some E333 and E666 and the product is ready. No scarcity. Provided that they have the chemical for it :D

As for the insect invasions in China...

Shield bugs have invaded most of Europe. Where did they come from? They're everywhere.

Despite pesticides, the continent is full of shield bugs. The invasion has been happening since around 2015-2016. And it's still going on.

It is odd, but it's like in the Bible. Insect invasions, hunger, wars... This is nuts!
