After being on Centrelink payments for a few months i'm really starting to find out it doesn't work and dose'nt pay enough....Only $460 per fornight is just not enough for food, fuel, internet and mobile phone which of all is needed to function in todays society..... I live in a semi rural area and its very hard to get to local Centrelink office for appointments and job agency as well....My mum had to pay my car registration last month.... I know they want people working and paying taxes but honestly they have screwed it all down way too hard it just doesn't work.

Centrelink payments are NOT a lifestyle choice! or at least should not be. They are a temporary assistance to help a citizen get over a period on misfortune.

There's still plenty of jobs out there if you look hard enough. It might not be in the field you want to work in, but if push comes to shove they'll pay the bills until you can find a job in the field you want. Doesn't take much to get a RSA and get a job behind a bar or a security licence to stand in front of a bank.
In case it helps, I started a thread on this elsewhere a few months ago, nowadays it is readily possible to get a good variety of food more than enough for a single bloke for under $5 a day. You obviously can't eat sirloin but there's a wide variety of other things that can do it, you just need to be willing to stick to it. Think of it as a challenge and money will stay in your pocket.
Rent and fuel can be tough of course, especially when you're locked in.

If you live somewhere isolated a car can be a necessity in order to be able to find and hold a job.

More to the point is that housing and transport options are usually things that cannot be adjusted within a few weeks without a significant expense. If you hoping to get a new job within a few weeks why go to the cost and hassle of selling/buying large pieces of capital?
