when buying whitegoods, cars etc. You can get better discounts for cash.............
This isnt the case anymore. I have sold both white good and cars a few years back and they dont want your cash, they want you to sign up for credit. We used to knock money off the cost of cars and whitegoods etc to lure people into a credit contract.

In Britain a lot of smaller shops won't accept 50 notes.
No one really uses them, I think I have handled one my entire life, and then only for a short time, ATMs don't issue them, and the shop keepers are all worried about forgeries, plus they don't want to give you all their 10s and 20s in change.

Never happens here in Oz even with $100 notes. Got forbid if I tried to use a EUR50 note. I'm guessing everyone just carries bags of coins around - jingling all the way.

I try and use cash with big retailers especially the supermarkets so they don't have a record of what i buy. I don't want my buying habits tracked and collated into targetted advertising in future. Same for making transactions through my phone or a chip in my hand or a swanky hat. You don't know who is using the information you're providing.
Small shops it's more convenient to use cash and I'm finding people who hold on to their Sign only credit cards are the slowest people to be behind in the shopping line.
In the UK how bad is it when you try to use any denomination of Scottish note in England, or even worse, Northern Irish. The shopkeepers almost go pale when you try use them, and it's all the same currency anyway!!

I generally only pay in cash when I don't want the Mrs knowing what I'm spending it on. I then spend the next few days fixing things around the house or take her out for a nice dinner or two to soften the blow when she takes a look at the statement online or goes the ATM.
