Cars as an investment

When you've finished with the El Camino I'll give you an address in Tuscon where you can drop it of for me ;)
An importer I know has a depot there or I'll be up that way for the gem fair in the next year or 2 :D

Best of luck. I believe only a true car enthusiast can flip cars around and make good profit. You would know where to go and what cars are hot. I think the average joe would not succeed at all. I know I wouldn't. The market is small but profit margins can be high for those who know what they are doing.

If you get it wrong you'll end up covered in blood, in hospital, broke from bills and a little brain damaged... and everyone will realise you're an idiot :P
 
I look at my cars as an investment, maybe not when driving them around town in summer but otherwise,

I have a Toyota HJ47 that was in a mine shed as an ambulance it's whole life, so only 9ks on it when I bought it, also a 60 series that's fitted with every imaginable extra,
Toyota's hold value better than any car, I regularly have people come up and ask if I would sell, I could at least get back what I paid on them so may as well enjoy that over fiat.
 
Here's how it works
A spray painter mate of mine picked up an original VC Valiant from a paddock from a cowcocky
$500
It looked like a POS till he got it home & gave it a good detail , put it up on the hoist , changed all the fluids ]
fresh petrol & she fired up :cool:
It didn't need any bodywork at all , just the original patina from sitting in the sun
Now it's on club plates & my mate will get a RWC for it next week

We own a 1935 Austin 7 Ruby in concourse condition. They guy who owned it before us had it fully restored - every single nut and bolt. Spent over $35 000 on it. Had it shipped to France for a rally and then shipped back to Australia. Before it arrived at the docks he dropped dead and the car sat in a museum for 5 years until we came along and bought it for $11 000.

8 years later I think it's worth about $11 001 :) - if I can find a buyer. But we've had a lot of fun in it as a family.

Number 58 of about 230 built. Cost enough that I had to pay luxury car tax on it, and I pick it up on 14 Jan 2015 :D

I don't suppose your mate would like to try and help me liberate one of those Chargers from the cowcocky? There'd be a nice commission in it for him ;)

I'd love one as a daily driver ...
