Just thought I'd post this as over the last few years people have thought about it

NOT a good investment as a general guide

Except ,if you can swing of a spanner yourself
Very few cars have been a good investment over the years

I sat down with one of the Porsche guys one day with a 20 year old copy of Unique cars

At best over the years it's been only the German stuff that has gone up in price :|
Vintage Porsche's & early Merc's pre 1970's "IF" you bought in at the right time & held for 10-20 years

Here's good example :o
A friend of mine offered me a Austin Bugeye sprite :lol:
He wanted $10K as he owned it from new
It was a basket case & needed a total resto - $25K to do it properly
The car is worth totally restored MAX $10k :/
Good investment over the years ? NOT

In a $25K resto , $10k-$15k just in consumables , eg primer, tape ,sandblasting & such

Here is a good investment for somebody who can do the resto themself's ;) ( reno ;) ;) ;) )
The silver 356 below is a local deliverd 1952 pre A 356 with race history , currently has a midmounted "URABUS" turbo motor in in to go racing :rolleyes:
It's worth $500k+ when it's totally restored
BUT
It's been stretched in the back to allow for the midmount
The stretch was done in the early 50's , early in it's life
The restoration would cost you $150K :o
Yes $150K as it needs a new ass end stitched into it :o
Don't know how much he wants for it yet

And if your going to ask about the GT Falcons & Monaro's :rolleyes:
The GT Falcon thing was a giant scam & they ended up with the good cars for themselves
And the Monaro's well
You had to have the right number cars ;)
A factory Chev powered Monaro numbers start with 818 if it's a 808 they were 6cyl or 253/308 cars
GT Falcons you need "GJ33" as a first prefix
The real $ cars in the GT Falcons were the Phase IV's XA as they were the last of the REAL GT cars ;)

But I'll add
IF it was an unrestored car, one owner with a interesting history
Maybe $15K

Car guys will pay top $ for an unrestored car ;)
 
The formula V ? in the pic would be my pic if it had some heritage & a few good wins/places on record .

Heres a pic of something i'd buy if i could find the history on it .Only info is its about 1969/70.The guy cant tell me if it had a number or any history . It would be already in my stable if it did .If anyone knows the car & history PM me tnx. Its a VIC car as far as i know

The formula veewee was freebie from a mate of his . For his son to start racing in ;)
Mostly Porch parts from the early 60's . It was given to him less engine
And having 6 or so 356 engines kicking around it now has a heart .

It's all about the numbers & the history ;)
 
Oh fk a freebie ...wish i had mates like that :lol: . Yeah it looks 60's cool little car . I would hazard a guess & say they added the roll bar a bit later

Actually you want cars with the JG33 prefix for Falcon GT sedans or JG66 for the XA/XB GT coupes. Prices went absolutely bonkers a few years ago, cooled off a bit since but still steep for a matching numbers GT.

My Shaguar broken down , needed an alternator
$350 + getting it fitted :rolleyes:
Off to pickapart it went
And I have 3 of those hire cars within 200 meters of me
jumped in one for the first time to go to Camberwell market early instead of waiting for a train on a Sunday morning

I paid $15 an hour including petrol
If you commit to a monthly plan you can get it down to $10 an hour INCLUDING PETROL

Not all Chev powered Monaros were 81837, only the HK GTS 327, HT GTS 350, HG GTS 350 and early HQ GTS 350 Coupes.

The HK and HT GTS 307 Chev used a 80837 prefix. That prefix was also used on HT, HG and HQ GTS Coupes fitted with a 253 or 308. The 6cyl HK, HT and HG GTS used the 80737 prefix.

Late HQ GTS 350 coupes had a 8Q37U prefix and the HQ GTS 350 sedans had a 8N69U and 8Q69U prefix. All early HQ LS V8 (253, 308 and 350) Monaros shared the 81237 prefix and late HQ LS 350 used a 8WP37U prefix.
 
ive always wanted a porsche but a newer one, i like the US Cayman.
i have a cousin that sold off her husbands old porsche after he passed and she got 80K for it

this is my $6000 "investment", plain jane '72 el camino thats my daily driver and only vehicle ATM

pretty sure that $6K is better off on my driveway than in the bank at least ATM

I wonder what a kombi, campervan or even a fiat 500 would cost to do up. All those are good fun and I note that the first two go for more money than I'm prepared to spend on cars.

Kombi , ground up $30K + Fiat bambino about $20K :o
That's doing it properly & paying somebody else to do it
I know an Italian guy who only restores 500 & it's $15K + the parts
