Buy/Sell/Trade thread + is ok but - is not

Hi all,

I find it strange that it seems ok to post a positive comment on a for sale thread ie: "Good Price" yet the slightest hint of "i think you are asking too much" will not be allowed.

I compare this to the futures market in australia back in 2008 during the 1st round of the GFC banning "shorts" yet allowing Long positions.

Out of this world!

My point is we should not allow any comments "nice price" rather than just restricting the "too much" replies - this should be in the best interests of the community as either way its having an effect on pricing.. maybe we all enjoy overpaying.. i thought the strength of the community was sharing knowledge and i dont believe being honest with a subjective opinion would have a negative impact on the SS forums.

I agree that rude and lowball (BS offers) replies dont warrent inclusion but they are just as useful as "this is a really good price IMO" which could be construed as a pump for the seller (weather intentionally or not). As long as you are polite about it and not rude or offensive i dont see what someones subjective opinion matters.. afterall the seller can repsond if they disagree and the potentail buyer should have there own mind to make an informed decision.

I am posting this after having a reply removed after replying directly to the sellers statement "is there no love for the kookaburra" and i mentioned that the reason there was no apparent love was the asking price rather than a lack of demand for the kook.. all very fair and honest stuff imo.

I usually adhere to the "if I'm not buying or making an offer then don't post in that sale thread" rule but I replied to your post as I felt your pricing was wrong.

Of course it was removed anyway, I get why it was removed of since it interferes with the seller's sale. Sort of.

The only issue I have really is sellers asking "no love?" or similar questions. They are inviting comment/replies and some posters feel obliged to reply.

Why can't they just use 'bump' instead of stupid rhetorical questions. Ffs.

Sometimes I wish I was like Nugget, speaking my mind and crapping all over bad sale threads hahaha.

No offense Nugget, you're awesome.

It's a hard question with no easy answer.

There is a reason why facebook doesn't have a dislike button.

Some people don't take criticism well.

Some criticisms are more valid than others.

simple if you are saying "buzz" or "PM Sent" then thats ok, otherwise STFU

PS: I have been guilty of this in the past but am now a reformed ramper/bummer :p

Are you talking about those threads that you create masquerading as asking for prices when in fact they are for exposing overpriced sale threads?

Sure, good points.. but on facebook you are free to comment under the likes are you not.. you could completely disagree and still have your comment displayed.

I am not absolute on this (no - comments on the sales thread) but dont much think its reality when only happy thoughts can be expressed, i like my reality undistorted and would be happy for someone to state there dissactisfaction at my pricing..

It should go without saying that if people dont like my price than they dont have to buy, and if they chime in i am happy to remind them OR i will change my pricing to reflect some good points a poster has taken the time out of there day to provide me with.. i know i dont post to annoy people.. just to enlighten.

Every time I see one oz dragon for sale for double spot price I just want to tell people to stay away from it and that it is overpriced junk based on a shared delusion...

Then again, maybe that is what this forum is ;)

On facebook, the owner of the post can delete your comments too or ignore/ unfriend you. This is a different medium which requires a different style. Also it's more adult to have to deal with people instead of having your software pretend they're not there for you.

You should say that in your sale threads (maybe ask for negative pricing feedback via PM).

Having positive pricing feedback in the thread might be helpful to people who are considering purchasing the item if they see its well known and has interest from other people (at that price - they can work out premiums over spot for themselves).

At the risk of being flamed, I completely agree with 1for1

It's ok to post a sale, bump it daily for a fortnight, ask why no love or post 'cooooommmmmmoooonnnn', then be hammered when you answer why? WTF?

Fact - Anything not sold within a 6 hour period is overpriced - plain and simple. Sorry but thats the truth.

Most sales are very resonable and hence sell quickly. Personally do prefer to buy from a fellow SS but not when I can get the same item or same Ag ounces elsewhere far cheaper

If you are selling, either you've over extended yourself or getting out of PM's period - otherwise suggest finding another rainbow to invest on because the PM game will break you everytime

Nobody's gonna flame you lol, I think most of us agree with him or some minor variation of his sentiments.

I guess it depends what you're selling, if it's a Perth Mint bar or generic Koalas then yeah but numismatics I'm not so sure since you literally have to wait for 'the right buyers'.

Plenty of things I have bought on here that I only saw after it was bumped up the page. Not all of us check stackers every hour.
If there was no overpriced stuff on here we would be all on here 24/7 refreshing to pick up all the bargains.
What some see as overpriced others see an item that they really want and are willing to pay a premium

Sorry everyone but I have to go and bump. Someone might not have seen the 2012 Pandas coming in. LOL.
Kind regards Maggie

I disagree with the overpriced thing. for a while there were a lot of PM 10oz bars on here that sold slowly because of the high premiums on them. I think it was a fair price nontheless because the mint wasn't selling them at the time. they did go eventually but only as people who were happy paying a premium for something in their hand now vs ordering and waiting a month.

What we dont want in a sale thread what people do at property auctions which is to badmouth the property with the hope of pushing its value down so they can buy it up cheap.

We've all been to those kinds of auctions where some fool in the crowd asks the auctioneer about "the termites" in the wood or the "asbestos" in the roof or the "native title claim" to try to push the price down so they can buy cheap.

Equally here we dont want people trying to push the value of someone's sale down with a view to picking up the item on the cheap - that's just an a@@holes act and would ruin the trade forum IMHO.

If people were truly trying to be helpful to the seller on giving advice on pricing, they should really be PMing the seller to let them know the items may be a bit over priced.

If they are concerned for any potential buyers, then i feel they should just let it be and leave it alone. If someone buys, then buyer is obviously happy with the price.

If it doesn't sell, the seller reduces the price. I know all of us have seen that happen many times.
