Bringing gold and/or silver into New Zealand on my WHV

So if u put gold coins in your wallet along with your other coins and put it through to be scanned. The scanner would pick up that the gold coins are different??

True but what is the reason for not taxing the gold? Like any product that comes into a country, there's a value of some sort where taxes are levied. I can not think of other goods (apart from precious metals) that does not attract any form of taxation - so where does the logic come from? The precious nature itself doesn't hold as diamonds too are precious and they attract tax.

Gold is money. It even has its own currency code. They don't charge tax on the cash you bring across the border either.

Yes.

Just a quick note that the instructions given in this thread still work as of December 2018. I had the relevant sections from the Working Tariff Document printed out and the look on the customs agent's face when her supervisor told her to wave me through was priceless.

2025
Bringing $1 million aud worth of gold bullion from Australia into New Zealand by plane.
Purpose is to live and gain PR in New Zealand.
Would this require any tax or duty liability entering NZ?

Wealth of mine?
Anyway, it’s weird how even stackers link gold to money laundering.
Australia has generous tax concessions for those that understand and use the laws.
I do recall a very famous quote by Kerry Packer at a senate hearing.
Something like, “ Anyone who doesn’t minimise their taxes is a fool” all legally of course.

Getting back on track,
It seems to be very difficult to find the NZ customs legislation specific to this question. Up to $10k NZD is clear anything above that for the purpose mention seems to be hidden.
