BITCON... WHY its totally FLAWED

It was a combination of solo mining (I found 2 blocks), and then using the altcoin.pw pool, which has since closed.

The settings I was using for solo mine:

cgminer -o 192.168.1.103:8108 -u miner -p blah --scrypt -I 13 --shaders=2048 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency=8192 --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1700 --temp-target 75 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-cutoff 95 --auto-fan -s 5 --expiry 5 --queue 0

You shouldn't bother with shaders if you are using thread-concurrency.

Also based on my previously experiments you should try setting the thread concurrency to 64 * bus bandwidth (384) just try and even 24000 and see how it goes, (then try increasing the intensity until you get errors)
also your temp settings aren't required as cgminer has them as the defaults.

Yeah done all that previously, 8192 worked the best for me, as did intensity 13.

Overclocked my 7970 to 1125 in Catalyst and am getting about 680mhash now...sound about right?

Now that I've got a mining rig running right, whats the easiest alt-currencies to clean up on right now?

I have been mining FRC through Coinotron, but difficulty has got quite high there too.

Trying out FTC using the FTC-Geek pool today.

Same here :/ Bit hard when I'm at work to change mining midstream :D

EDIT: I did manage to find a block last night, this morning put it straight up onto bter and sold 91 CHN for 0.184 BTC @ 0.0020. Must have just beat the difficult rise!

I didn't understand this bit

Of all the millions of dollars of purloined bitcoin that's floating around out there, not one Satoshi of it has been spent. That's because while most other stolen property becomes relatively indistinguishable from its legitimate brethren, everybody knows the identity of this particular stolen wealth, and can track it until the end of time.

A pallet of $100 bills that disappears in Iraq is a socialized loss against everyone who holds dollars. A million dollars of lost bitcoin carries its identity, at least as a traceable taint. This loss remains privatized, and it can be sued for, forever.

There are a small number of choke points, which someday may be asked to honor these thefts. Will the currency translators accept the money? Will the mining pools? It's really an open question. We just don't know.

Perhaps the best way to think of stolen bitcoin is as stolen art. Sure, we can hang it anywhere. Don't expect to sell it at Christie's. A resource that loses its value as soon as it is stolen, may be one that isn't stolen.

If you were a thief, wouldn't you just use a mixing service, and get clean, crisp bitcoins out the other end?

Indeed, just like Silk Road sellers do.

A great article overall, but that part is just purely incorrect.

Is there a legit website where you can buy shares in a mining factory?

IE: Buy a share of an ASIC machine etc. and the host maintains/runs it and you get dividends of bitcoins minus a small %?

I see a few advertised but can't tell how to get into them or which ones are legit :)

I have a link at home to some kind of BTC securities (shares/stocks) trading site which is a similar concept, I'll post it later on today.
