So over time more Aluminium could be mined and thus the value can drop, where as more Gold cannot be easely mined.
Do you suppose aluminiumbugs thought that more aluminium couldn't be easily mined at the time?

Again Aluminium is abundant in the earth, Gold is NOT.

Yes Aluminium was once worth a lot back in the days, but not because there was very little of it, but more so maybe because it was hard to mine and refine with current equipment. Just like how heaps of "special" Tulips could be created, just at the time most people didn't know how.

Whereas no matter how much better we get at mining there is always going to be far less gold atoms then other atoms. So unless you can replicate the pressure of a collapsing star, then good luck creating more. And I'm very confident we would not be able to do that for a very long time.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Sure, but I wasn't talking about on Earth, as I've already made clear. This seems to be the impasse for us - you think I'm crazy for thinking we could procure PMs (from space, where there are billions upon billions of tonnes of gold, platinum, rhodium, paladium, everything). While I think you're crazy for thinking it's not gonna happen at any point. Seems like simple enough arguments, we just have to wait now to decide the winner. Maybe I'll buy a ticket up there and check out the space mining scene for myself, let you know how it's going.

Ok fair enough. Well of course at some point in time we could create a device to fly to a plant made of gold, but more likely at some point in time we will have the technology to produce gold on earth. But if you want to put the whole "well at some point" argument, then that can be applied to everything and that makes everything pointless. But I'm just trying to talk about what is realistic in our, our children and our children's children's life time. And at the moment Gold is the best store of value we have on this plant. That's all I'm saying.

At some point in time we might find out we live in the Matrix and nothing is real, then there is no point to store value because there is no value to be stored :|

Now what was the original post about? :/

Haha, no worries mate. I can understand what you're saying for sure. I'm planning on giving a young family member a small gold coin for christmas, and I wouldn't do that if I thought it was all doom and gloom ahead. I already gave them a physical bitcoin, so it will be interesting to see how their view on wealth and investments develops over time.
