Apart from Perth Mint, which are the top 3 mints worldwide? Is it worth buying from overseas mints bearing in mind postage costs?
 
That's an interesting question. You are talking about government mints, I guess?

Some of them were extremely important in the past, and some still are today.

I suspect that the US mint is still considered the top one, but things might change quickly.

Not necessarily only Government mints. Perth Mint appears to hold quite a bit of respect internationally and I'm just wondering what other mints, Government or private are 'up there'?
 
As you mentioned the PM I'll assume you mean private mints. I'll say PAMP, Argor and ABC.

Depends on what you're buying but if it's generic bullion then it's a waste of money. Somewhere like Perth Bullion stock a wide variety of foreign metal. Always a bigger risk sending PM's through the post as they're not insured.
 
What sort of criteria are you looking at GeordieGirl? Are we looking for quality of material & strike, design & series, largest face value, or collectability & numismatic value growth potential?

Honestly, I tend to look for the premium to be low as possible & largest face value if a coin. I am buying ounces, not coins so I don't slab them or put them in capsules. As such I am looking at coins from RCM (Royal Canadian Mint) such as Maples as these have the largest face value at the lowest price. I know some will say they milkspot but I buy a tube and leave them there.

If I personally had to pick a general top 3 mints in coins, it would be Perth for Kookas (Gold & Silver) and Lunar series with appreciation potential, Royal (UK) & US Mints for currency accepted everywhere.
 
This depends on gold or silver ? The Perth Mint used to be high on my list with silver many years ago. But now, I don't bother with there silver products as their bullion is problematic. Their gold products are still good. I like the silver from the Royal Australian Mint, the strike and the quality has always been better in my opinion, but can be pricey. The Perth Mint silver has in the past been more sought after among stackers globally. But with current issues this makes it a real game changer.
