Best stack building coins/bars

So....wanted to get your opinions on the best stack fillers (current and future). Favourite bars? I personally like the look of the 5oz Scottsdale prey bars (mainly cos they look cool)

RCM and ASE are pretty overpriced, maybe libertads and kooks? 1966 50s seem to be very popular on here too.

My stack currently stands at about 50oz (thats including a 1kg PAMP) and mainly looking to gradually build with the aim of longer term investment but also things that are not too hard to unload in case the need for quick cash arises :P

Should be a pretty interesting discussion :)
 
I think your 1kg PAMP is a pretty good start, easy to sell, and closer to spot than 5oz etc..
 
Agree.

I know there are two arguments about higher premium silver.

For: They always retain a price in keeping with their premium.

Against: Maybe not.

I've only been "doing silver" for less than twelve months.

For me ... the closer to spot the better.

Why?

The less likely I am to lose on the premium "gap".

I do have literally one or two higher premium items. I repeat "literally".
 
I buy whatever 999 metal I can afford, as close to spot as possible - ideally without paying VAT. Thus, I have a range of coins (bars are taxed in the EU) and a few bars. I don't care what they are as long as they are fine silver and as close to spot as possible.

For two reasons though, I stick to coins for gold - one is cost (although sub-ounce bars and wafers are available), the second is it's easier to spot a fake without a formal assay than it is with a gold bar.

Bars in tamperproof packaging would get around this... but wouldn't you want to handle the gold? Your buyer might even if you don't...

That was the case, at least, before I dropped it all getting on board my friend's boat...

The lower you set your price, the easier to unload.
The rest is just detail in the eternal space of the universe. :P

I remember that I had a laugh in april 2011 when I saw maples at spot without VAT on an auction site. I think you get the point.
 
I think round 50s and 10oz+ bars are great ways to start in australia.
Very liquid too.
Then once you have a few of these as you core, start on the higher premium stuff like kooks/lunas etc

For me, premium is the enemy.

I only suffer it more for coins over bars because I'm buying something more 'verifiable'.


That said, when I started I knew little and inadvertently paid some now-stupid-looking premiums... I think they saw me coming.

Agree, and for some reason I find PM 10's + 66 / 50's very aesthetically appealing.

Not as big on kooks and luna's but that's not a big deal.

But a serious question.

999 to the best of my knowledge is "quarantined" from tax issues within Australia??

But aren't metals that are anything other than 999 subject to or potentially subject to some kind of impost?

If so, better hide the sterling silver cutlery!

Anyone got the lowdown on this?
 
I try not to get bogged down on what type/make it is, as long as fine silver. I don't care if its shaped like mickey mouses head or a coin, its all the same in the end coz when the times right I'll sell it all to a refiner
