Australian Super - Investing in Gold ETFs

Hi everyone,

I'm with Australian Super and I'm thinking about moving my balance into the gold ETF option. I mustn't have done my research properly at the start of 2016, otherwise I probably would have done this back then.

Does anyone have any experience of this? The issue for me is that I'd like to have my balance in PHYSICAL GOLD (or even better, SILVER), but there simply isn't that option.

Damn super, I hate that they decide what to do with my money.

SMSF for physical gold is the better option.

Do you mean setting up your own SMSF? I looked into that and it would drive me nuts.
Others on this forum have recommended esuper. I haven't used it as I have little to no super myself. It's a semi automated auditing for SMSF at 1k cost per year. Great if you have above 100k super, can get yourself a kilo and a half of gold or so for physical ownership.

Beats any paper gold hands down

Thanks for the heads up. I may look into it.

I use brightday, gives you exposure to Silver and Gold ETF.

I've put a % of my super (in HostPlus) into the ETF GOLD.ASX (https://www.etfsecurities.com.au/product/gold). From their page, you are investing in physical gold with the ability to redeem it if you like, for a fee of course. Retail super sucks for having any real control but I think this is at least a decent option.

Thanks for the heads-up. Good to have the option, but the catch is the fee for redeeming the gold...

Hi how did this turn out for everyone? i would liek to pull what super I have out whilst the market is still high, and put it into soemthing Gold related. I know my superfund wh=ont let me cash in, so I'd be happy to transfer to a managed fund. Can anyone recommend how to do this? and who to use/ I have zero knowledge in this field.

I didn't eventually go down that path as it meant using a "feature" of Australian Super that would have been very costly. In hindsight, it still may have been a good idea.

I'm thinking of going down the SMSF path now.
