Kind of. Boomers could support a home, a family and a car on a single wage. But they worked hard, often in industrial workshops and did their backs and knees and hearing early. Dentistry was terrible, cars were rust buckets with no safety features, any phone call other than a local call was crazy expensive. As was international travel. The necessities of life were cheap and wages were low, luxury items were very expensive and out of reach for most.
It's the opposite now. Living necessities like housing, food, water, electricity and so on are very expensive. In comparison luxury items are cheap. Anyone can get a Prada purse or Gucci sun glasses but can't afford rent. We now live in an era of "luxury poverty".
