Australia happy to help with euro crisis

Have you ever seen a face you want to slap so much?
+1

Probably take two slaps though. He'd likely just look back in mute dumbness (typical swan look) after the first one. So after a pause to allow his brain to start registering, he'd need a second for effect.

No way in hell should australia put any money towards helping Euro banks. Wayne Swan didn't actually say we would give them cash, just 'assistance', hopefully that means he can give them his expert advice for free :-).
If we get involved in any euro bailout, I will be out in the streets protesting!

Well, his boss has just committed to giving around a billion dollars a year to the UN from Australia's economy, what's the problem with Swan throwing taxpayers money down a hole as well? It wouldn't be the Labour Party without gratuitous mindless spending for no good purpose, he is only doing what is "in Labour's DNA". He is a big man now, the best treasure EVER, so he has to go out on the world stage and throw some money around to show that he is a playa. He can compete with Rudd to see who can be the biggest fishy.

Since australia has the best banks in the world and the most resilient economy that relies on no other nation on earth, why not?

Nah he's serious, think about it. We could just give the Europeans some of our unlimited capital gains from RE (via our banks) and everyone will be happy.

you know what Fish there are people who would agree with all of that

I know.............. why dont we just let them all come and live here!! What a great idea, I'm sure Julia and Wayno will think of it.

Australian banks almost entirely get their funding of-shore this is why ratings agency's in the past have said they will downgrade the banks here unless this changes.

If credit markets are frozen due to some event out of Australia's control our banks can all be severely effected as seen in 08 when two banks here required bailout funds from the U.S federal reserve.

I'm not really sure how we could help the Euro zone out besides providing possible small bailouts but this could really only be done under strict rules while country's like Greece ect are still in the Euro, once Greece moves back to the drachma all bets are off in getting the money back(we will get the nominal value back but they will surely print the debt).

We really do need some sarcasm italics/tags or something.

Maybe now that we are doing onshore processing Swan could let Euro boat people in. All those yachts from Monaco can sail into Sydney Harbour without having to worry about having their boats impounded and being flown to Malaysia.

I know some unaccompanied miners from broken hill that would go to Malaysia.

Pfft Australian cant even help itself and they think they are Mother Teresa all of a sudden.
Delusions of grandeur on the part of some in terms of Australia's financial position, or our economies resilience.

Almost the only reason we weren't hit bad in 2008 (public purse aside), was our almost total dependency on our mining industry (ie the Chinese still wanted our Iron ore and coal still went out) and our shallow markets for anything else (particularly manufacturing).

I love my country but I'm sure as hell wide awake enough to see that economicly, our nation is a house of cards.

Yes it is quite frustrating constantly hearing the average sheeple on the street talk about how we faired well during the GFC. Sure it's technically true but its not like they make that comment based on any real thought or knowledge, they are just repeating what the tv box told them to think.
