Not impressed with an auction that I just had to pull the plug on because a bidder decided to knock $50 off their bid, unbeknownst to me and most likely many other potential buyers until near the end of the sale.

I run my auctions openly and fairly and try to let the market decide the fair value of my goods. No reserves and no rooting around. I consider a bid placed soon after the auction opens and then edited the next day to lower it to be a compromise of this fair auction process.

Not impressed.

I got msged saying can offer cheaper from someone else didn't see any rules on editing at least I still stayed in with a higher bid

If you got a better offer why not pull the bid altogether?

If you think "so what" about editing your bid you have a lot to learn about trading ethics.

So someone tried to poach you from the auction with a counter offer of cheaper? That's just as poor form in my opinion.

An auction bid is a offer to buy at that price - whether it's for a house in person or a coin online - you don't retract and reduce.
 
Thought that would be worse pulling the bid
didn't think to ask first before I edit cause I thought I had no control before it ended

No it doesn't.

Unless you click and check feedback just shows "+__". Most mems are as likely to click and check feedback as would check through auctions to see if bids have been edited.
 
Would it be better if I just pulled out any time I want if I got told i bidded to high like u can end any time u want
 
Would you guys say complete bId retractions are just as bad as bid reductions? This happened to me with my recent auction. An excuse was given through PM. Interested to know all your thoughts.
 
its time the forum set the bidding rules in my opinion, this flares up regularly

Vendor bids
Redactions
Reductions

Its all about the seller realising the auction is going south so they throw in bullshit caveats or bids to ramp the price.
 
Seems there are unwritten rules that buyers have to follow but sellers can make up whatever rules they like

I also think that retracting a bid is not right,
but sellers ending auctions at their whim or having secret reserves is also not right

the problem here was the way it was done - editing the bid is not noticed by all
if the buyer had PMed the seller and asked to retract the bid, at least the seller could have had time to bump the auction and PM other buyers

agree with hiho - should be basic rules all must follow
 
Agree to the above. We need basic written rules. But will they be followed.
Kinda like trading etiquette is not followed........until someone is made an example of.

A bid is a bid your expected to stick by it.

Whoever "massaged" you with a lower offer is a low-life-bottom-feeding sorry MF TURTLE SOB. :|

Agree!

If the auction had of been held on ebay, once you submit your bid, that's it.
If you are the highest bidder just before the completion of the auction, you can't edit the bid once it has been submitted.

That's standard practice for any auction site.

WOOPS! I was wrong regarding retracting bids on Fleebay.
Still doesn't make it right.
