Ase's what's the go?

ASE's? I like the little tubes.

The tops are really difficult to get off though, you have to prise them off, guess they are pretty airtight though!

ASE's in Australia are basically just generic bullion, my LCS puts NO premium on ASE's... i got a 1995 ASE (key date) and a 1992 Maple Leaf for $36 each ) last tuesday.

On ebay they do ok.. some people obviously value them..

In Australia we are lucky to have selection.. i persoanlly and totally over ASE's and find the design (YAWN) a tad boring and crave more variety.. Brtianias, Lunars, kooks, koalas, pandas etc... all change design annually.. these are better.. more limited and more collectable..

I find ASE's and Maples are the most boring govt minted bullion.. also rookie level bullion.. at least they are safe for newbies with no fakes around (YES thats correct NO fakes).. despite what some people have stated on this forum research will show these coins are NOT counterfieted.. (one fo the only reasons you'd want to pay a premium for them).

Correct 1:1. There is essentially no numismatic premium on ASE's. I have some of the 1996 "key date" and probably an extra $10 an ounce for those. But really ASE's are just moving up/down with ag spot as opposed to say the Lunars that have a semi-numismatic premium along with the early koalas and certain years in the kooks.

Plus I actually own a fake ASE which I brought along to the Brisbane Meet-up for show and tell.

Of course, if you are talking about a convincing fake then you might be right, mine was dated 1906!

yes exactly.. a fake.. as in .. of a year they actually made them... i actually spent a whole night checking all the fake ASE links and articles.. usually about morgans and trade dollars... nothing remotley resembling the 86- ase's...

In post #14 i laid out my findings... and blew the FAKE ASE argument apart showing photos of all the ASE which may be deemed as fake but none would actually fool anyone as either marked COPY or not a year the ASE was even made.. if you find any proof of a FAKE ASE... please post...

WAVER: i am not the champion of ASE's -- i find them dull and boring and think the US half dollar design was better on the half dollar.. so i am objectively seeking proof, currently it is my opinion that the ASE is a safe form of bullion buying for a newb.... (with minimal passing knowledge)

The premium on ASEs varies by US Mint availability. When the mint is short on blanks, then the premiums are high. When the blanks are plentiful, the premiums are low. Right now, premiums are very low.

I agree about the ASEs being basically boring bullion coins. While I like the design, the lack of yearly change and the massive mintages are deterrents for me. I will be swapping my mint boxes for Canadian Wildlife and Australian Lunar coins over the next 1-3 years.
