Woohoo, I'm finally down to zero demerit points!

How did you do that? Did you pay your fines?

It takes 3 years for them to expire. So you have to go three years without an offense.

You'll just have to drive sensibly to make it. If not, you'll be on your bike or public transport.

Don't know if you lost your points for speeding but I live in the nanny state and learned long ago to use the cruise control where ever possible.

The last fine was for speeding just outside of Sydney when coming back from a trip up north. Thanks to cruise control it was exactly 10 over the limit and I didn't even realize the limit had changed (along with all other traffic at the time... I was even in the left lane.)

Cruise control isn't a panacea when speed limits are changed due to road works and whatever reason.

Oh. That makes sense I guess, although 3 years seems a fair while for what are probably minor misdemeanors. (I've never had to deal with it so I've never bothered learning what the rules are )

I have all my points now. In VIC it also takes 3 years to regain your lost points.

I think the current infringement system is unjust. NO I don't condone hoon driving, running red lights or drink driving. But I hate the fact when you make a mistake the ones(government) who fine you are the ones who benefit from your mistake. Why can't I nominate a charity for that money to go to. Saying that the current system does also restricts road trauma but at the same time it is used to raise revenue. The question is what's more important to the government?

And also why cant there be a good behaviour system for minor misdemeanors. For an example if a single mum with 4 kids, working 2 jobs to support her family gets a speeding fine for going 7km/h over the speed limit, and rather than charging her $x why couldn't they put her on a 6-12 month bond. So if she doesn't slip up in that given period she doesn't have to pay for the original fine.

Also if by charging us $x money to serve as a deterrent, how can you compare a regular joe blow on minimum wages paying a $300-400 fine and a billionaire paying the same fine?

I wanted to get one of those but my cigarette lighter is taken up by the dash cam and I can't use those bulky two way adapters coz they stick out too far and hits my transmission selector.

You can get a 2nd lighter put into your car. No idea of cost though.

I've got a Garmin and it's only as good as the last map update. NSW seems to have many brief sections of road with temporary limit changes due to road works that aren't captured in the data.

And for some reason it always has trouble navigating through Canberra if I'm heading down the Monaro Highway to Vic.

Perfectly legal in Victoria. There is no law against the use of covert radar by police.

Perfectly legal in Victoria. There is no law against the use of covert radar by police.

I believe here in qld they need to be visible(which they usually dont) and cannot put the camera at certain point-end of downhill for example
