APMEX Gods of Olympus style 'EXODUS' coin revealed

I received two of these just before Christmas and sent them both back to APMEX today. The packaging is good and the coins look good. I believe that this was a bad choice for the first coin and have to believe that future images will look much nicer if they are simpler, but decided I don't want to take a chance on it. The coin number is printed on the edge of the coin, one was right in the center like in the pictures. The number for the other coin was down very near the edge of the coin. A bit more and it would not have been readable. Don't like the idea of those numbers being all over the place, an issue of quality control to me. And lastly, I watched the quantity very carefully for about a week. Number would slowly go down and then suddenly pop back up by 20 or 30. Are those returns or is APMEX slowly feeding more back on the shelf? This might be one of those times when I look back and see I should have held these but for now, holiday bills need paid and the above things caused me too much concern for this series.

Indeed, I wanted to believe, but I just never feel in love with it. I thought they could have done so much better on the image. I think you made the right decision. There may be a few in the series that really pop, and if the price is right, I may buy. :-) otherwise, I'm staying away.

I didn't like the designs from the Perth Mint series.
Somehow the design contrasted with its subject. One thing I could name: the gimmick style lightning staff in the hand. But it wasn't just that.
And now I see this version from APMEX, I know what it was.
Two reasons:
1) That antique finish warps the coin to the historical time of the subject. It looks like an relic coin passed through many generations.
2) God pictures don't work in close up and little scenery. They should be distant and alot scenery. What's a god of olympus without showing a big part or even entirety of the mountain/scene the name was drawn from?
I'd buy one, if I find it for sale at a dealer nearby. At the moment, the chance appears tiny though.

IRS = Inventory Reduction Sale

Those items under this sales program are offered nearly at spot prices.

Hope these takes off.

Unlikely. They are trying to replicate the success of the now iconic Perth Mint Gods of Olympus series, but Perth Mint set the bar very high.

Think about it, this will be a series of 60 coins (if they don't give up due to lack of interest). Your money would be better spent now on acquiring the Perth Mint three-coin series.

buyers of this coin will be fine... $150 on the downside.... multiples of retail price on the upside
10 year program.... ummmm that's a long long time... 10 years of constant coins coming out
w/ different designs (ie. constant advirtising 4 1st in series)... i believe there's roughly 2.2 billion Christians currently
mintage is 1500?

even if everyone... and i mean EVERYONE hated the design (which they don't i think it looks fine) owners should
achieve a double on this coin no sweat... now if it could appreciate from there? well that's up for debate but
i know there will be buyers for this in the $300-$400 range w/i 18 months if not sooner

it only takes 1 impatient Christian coin collector w/ money to burn to pop on a buy it now

We shall see. Me thinks 60 coins is a lot, too much for a series...I think the stop the series early on, or at least cut the Mintage down to 500 - 750 and don't make the thing so dang 'busy,' we get the point...we know the story.

At least from the picture I think the coin is so busy that it is hard to even make out what it is. When you have to stare at it for 5 seconds to figure out what you are looking at I think it is a failure of a design. Maybe it will look better in person. Might still do well I guess but the 60 coin series is just dumb.

60 * 2oz coins with the packaging is going to take up allot of space.

Here's a simulated comparison of 120oz of silver. (I know, the dimensions are not super accurate.)

Yep. Good job at the simulation. One of the reasons I only bought one of the avenger series...and just sold it last week. Way too much space. :-)

I've been really struggling with space myself. Now when I see a really nice coin I look closely at the packaging.

This is going to be the Pokemon of coins... gotta catch 'em all. Or maybe not. Actual Pokemon coins might have been a better choice but I guess ancient Biblical stories aren't encumbered by IP rights.

I really want to like it, but that video once again says, 'no way, just ain't getting one.' It looks like a high relief coin with a bunch of specs, with no meaning. About the only thing I can ID are the waves. Horrrible choice of image for 1st coin. No thanks. Silverpete, you can have them. hehehe.

Gents,

Thanks for the open sharing, I hope to tell a story about how it all started with exodus and the end in 10 years... (;

Definitely a journey to remember...

NOT true. There are plenty of proof/numismatic coins under this sale that carry huge premium. Because APMEX acquiring price for those carried high premium. They cannot afford to sell them at big loss.

Hi, I was referring more to PM.

As for proof and numismatic, i have no experience about them hence i did not observe pricing for this category.

I should have mention clearer. Thanks.
