Anyone ever go Fossicking / Panning for Gold?

I'm out tomorrow with my sons with a minelab 4500.
Yes you can hire them for about $200 a week and they are great.
I live in WA so the gold fields are not to far but we enjoy old farms amd the beach.
But I will tell you were the real treasures are (cemetery's). I don't go there and cannot bring myself to but alot of nice bits of jewelry have been found there but I believe that most of it has been buried beside the grave of a loved one.
Look around race tracks, show grounds, etc good luck.

I do believe there is a secret spot north of gin gin.....dont know where, bought some nuggets from a guy that detected there a few years ago....

Are you trying to start a gold rush in our neck of the woods? :)

I've been out before in the Victorian Goldfields round Heathcote, Dunolly, St Arnaud etc and one of the problems you run into is the availability of land. State forests etc make up just a small part of the land and the rest is in private ownership. I reckon the state forests in the goldfields have been detected to death, I never found anything (of value!). Glad I only hired the machine - $6k or something to buy !
