Anyone dealt with Suisse Gold before?

I just placed an order with suisse gold prior to searching for reviews. A mistake by my part but I haven't send funds yet.

I used to buy "Choice" magazine many many years ago, I was under the mistaken belief that their reviews would help choose quality products. Worst washing machine we ever bought was the most highly rated by Choice at the time.

So you're saying reviews are not credible? I just don't want to send funds and find out I have to wait months to get my order filled.

Was going to keep this private but anyway. Please note that the issues have been dealt with and all is satisfactory from my end now.

I have purchased from Suisse Gold and use their free storage and insurance scheme. I have not had anything delivered to me so I can't comment on that aspect of their business.

They deal in a very formal business like manner, which is unusual for me, having dealt with a number of other dealers who were quite informal (which I find a bit more comfortable) but, they do operate in another part of the world and probably swim with some very big and important fish so they have to be formal. When you join you receive an email from a personal representative of the company.

However, combining that formality with the administration issues I experienced with my personal representative for a few weeks, gave me the impression that I was not reading or sending emails to a real person, but rather anyone in the office who could speak English. I was getting rather stressed and after repeated emails and promises, and wondering whether I'd done my dough, I lodged a complaint detailing the slow progress in receiving any paperwork about my purchase and that I felt that I was not dealing with a real person. Anyway, got an email back quickly from another representative apologising for the mess and blaming their new computer ordering system for the stuff up. As it turned out I had also stuffed up by clicking the "Please deliver" box instead of the "Secure storage" box. But that was beside the point because had they dealt with the issues promptly that would have all been sorted.

Since then i have received the paperwork detailing the ownership of the goods. If I won lotto, I would buy from them again (after giving Elemental his free 1kg gold bar) because I like the idea of having some PM's stored offshore, particularly in a country renowned for secure banking.

Next step will be selling it one day.

If your don't hold it you don't own it mate

That pretty much sums it up. ;)

You can't hold it here, and hold it offshore at the same time. It's not exactly an ideal system, you just have to trust the company and bank you're dealing with. :)

Have any of you ever heard that a wire transfer can take up to a few days to receive? From 1 US bank to another? That sounds ridiculous to me but that is what Jennifer Shields, Suisse Gold Customer Service just emailed me. I sent a wire 24 hours ago and she is saying they haven't received it yet but i have the confirmation and transaction reference number.

Up to 48-72 hours is common. Usually they go via an intermediary bank.

Thanks Gold Pelican. I was getting a little concerned but you have alleviated that some. All the best.

Banks normally do their transactions via a batching process that's run once per day, usually in the wee hours of the morning. The cunning rats will take it out of your account immediately but get to hold it for up to 24 hours before the batching process. Since there are at two banks involved, it can take up to 48 hours to conduct the transfer.

They got my wire. Woo hoo. Now get me my silver and gold! :)

Congrats! Do update on the delivery times. Heard SwissPost can take quite a while to reach you.

Will do. The customer communication is not too great. I probably won't order from them again. I paid for fed ex express delivery which is 3-7 business days on their website but haven't heard anything from them except they received my funds. So in other words, no way am I getting it within 3-7 business days.

Rumor has it not even the Swiss can be trusted to deliver allocated gold:
Sinclair: "A person that I know with significant deposits in one of the primary Swiss banks, in allocated gold, wanted to take out his gold and was just refused on the basis of directives from the central bank...

They told him the amount was in excess of 200,000 Swiss francs and the central bank had instructed them not to do it because it has to do with anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering precautions.

Note that the above is not necessarily specific to Suisse Gold, but should be taken as a reminder to folks that vault services - even fully allocated in a respected locale - carries risks.

Update: I received part of my order on 5/7, still have more than half pending. Will never buy from them again. It'll be over a month before I'm finally fulfilled.

I've dealt with them through Maggie: very smooth transaction, got the stuff delivered quick.
Maggie has been super awesome in helping with this.

Absolutely the worst. I received so many emails from this John Christopher character about my order shipping this week, then i inquire again, and i get the same answer, this week. Over a month to fill such a small order and i paid express delivery!!!! Combibars delivered without their assay cards as shown on the picture on their website. Now he's looking to fill my order with alternative products as he claims the refinery is slow to deliver. 1 10g gold bar. Really? You can't get 1 10g gold bar delivered to you and you deal with precious metals? I accepted the alternative product if it means it will ship out today. To be continued....

Perth Mint isn't accepting wholesale orders for 10g bars as of this moment because they have none in stock and have moved to an "in-stock sales only" model, so without going into specifics of the items you've purchased, yes, it's entirely feasible.

April depleted global physical retail inventories. Everyone is playing catchup.
