Anybody used a melting furnace?

I'm hoping to knock up some 999 silver bars next year.

Looking for hints and tips on using melting furnaces.

Hobby level, no more than ten ounces at a time.

Any general or specific tips would be greatly appreciated.

Is this likely to produce better results than electrolysis?

What sort of pong do they give off? Are the neighbours going to notice?

Also has anyone got a furnace they no longer need? Could be keen to buy.

Looking forward to as productive and enjoyable post as my last one.

You guys are fantastic when it comes to this kind of post.

Thanks in advance.

I have one that needs a new heating coil, i used it 3 times with not much success :( Its a little harder then i thought it would be. Its a good idea to have an oxy torch warming up the crucible while pouring because it cools down real fast while pouring. And there is a little smell(vapor) but its not much, i recommend doing it out side in a shed not in your house.
