The Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University estimates that the U.S. military has emitted roughly 1.2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions since the global war on terror began in 2001 (Darby, 2019). This level of greenhouse gas emissions is equivalent to operating 257 million passenger cars annually. The carbon emissions from war-related activity in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Syria is projected to have reached 400 million metric tons of carbon dioxide through 2019 (Darby, 2019).
If the US military were a country, it would nestle between Peru and Portugal in the global league table of fuel purchasing, when comparing 2014 World Bank country liquid fuel consumption with 2015 US military liquid fuel consumption. For 2014, the scale of emissions is roughly equivalent to total -- not just fuel -- emissions from Romania. According to the DLA-E data obtained by the researchers, which includes GHG emissions from direct or stationary sources, indirect or mobile sources and electricity use, and other indirect, including upstream and downstream emissions.
With this lot (the political circus animals) it's always one rule for me, another rule for thee.
And we haven't even touched upon the topic of whether or not their claims actually have any merit - scientific and otherwise - to them.
Climate is a complex topic. Decades ago the rage in pseudoscience media was about the apparent (so we were told) onset of the coming ice age. *They were even discussing hare-brained schemes to heat up the earth at the time.
This all changed around the 1980's or so for some reason or another when elements in the media changed the narrative and identified "global warming", later replaced by deliberately vague and meaningless "climate change", as the next big thing.
The climate literally changes every day, and always has, for all sorts of complex and not fully understood and studied reasons.
I am also left with the impression that much of the "science" involved in these climate studies has less to do with real science and more to do with promoting narratives and agendas of those who commission these "climate studies" and who funds the institutions who conducts these studies, but that's all imo of course.
Unsolved mysteries? Something doesn't make sense and cannot be explained? - Answer: Always follow the money.
*Very recently (a month or two ago) a billionaire scheme to conduct experiments in blocking out sunlight were cancelled in Sweden. Imagine the consequences once these people get their way and start tampering with the climate as they are now tampering with our health.
