just out of curiosity, anybody like me, been buying G & S for best part of 5 years, and i have NEVER sold so much as a single ASE.

Never will until the time is right, after SHTF Day dawns. Would not sell at $100 an ounce!

Do you need a cuddle?

I've been buying for nearly a year, yet been interested in it since around 2009. Never had the cash to buy and did lots of moving around too.
I wouldn't be selling anything for the foreseeable future.

No !, suspect your not alone.
personally still in the accumulation phase, which is a hell of alot of fun.
using your benchmark actually of, 3,000 ozs ag and 60 ozs au. as a minimum !

have been stacking for 3 years with a $ cost average of $23.80aud, so "underwater" so to speak.
 
Not quite alone. I have my core stack which hasn't been plundered since I started on this rocky adventure called stacking. Then I have a small "flip" stack that comes and goes as I see new bright shiny things that I buy and sell because I simply can. My core stack is added to on a semi regular basis but never really sees the light of day. You would need to pry it from my cold dead hands to get it.
 
When you do sell for something more interesting/useful/more applicable to your lifestyle then it is amazing how the desire and interest wanes. The accumulation fervour that I once had for silver has gone.
 
Traded a few bars for other silver and another item on the forum, sold a gold bar when I realised I could recoup the high premuim paid, flipped a couple here partly to get a trading history... but in several years, that's it so far.
 
Some of my tastes had changed, or my PM universe had expanded, or some premiums had shot up to the point where it would be foolish not to sell..

Storage was becoming an issue, or realized I probably had too much on a $$ level, or wanted to shift focus..

New items had come out which weren't previously available, or quality issues had formed with some pieces..

Etc., etc.


My stack/collection has undergone an extensive & long-overdue renovation, especially so since the start of the year.

Some losses, some break-evens, some nice gains, all on a net basis.

And some proceeds have been held back, while another portion has been plowed back into it..


Selling has been a time- and energy-consuming pain in the ass.

But much happier with the stack/collection now.. Worth it! :cool:
 
Not me. Sold the last of my ASEs when silver was at $22 (around August-September, 2013). Sold my AGEs too. Selling lunars and other semi numis when the demand is there.
 
Do not forget guys (can i use that word?) food and barter stocks are every bit as important.

Never tell ANYBODY!

Dccpa will have nothing left when silver hits 200.00 an ounce. LMAO.

Edit: He'll actually have lots of worthless paper with ink on it. :D

That's an interesting amount, is there any reasoning behind the totals? I'd love to have that much but, that will take a hell of a long time

I just feel it would be healthy to have a fixed goal !
some say a percentage of ones' net worth ..... not me, as that value seems to tie into something I find difficuilt to relate to, as it fluctuates.

each to their own I guess.

PMFBI, but the 3000/60 figure was not actually a goal or final figure.

It was simply a total on hand at that date.

Having decided about 2 years after the GFC, that solving a debt problem with more debt was insane and had NIL hope of solving anything, making it worse in fact and I looked for alternatives.

We had a house paid for, cash investments and shares. The cash and shares looked very vulnerable, and that left G & S as an insurance policy for SHTF Day.

As for G & S, all i was interested in was .999 silver in a recognizable and acceptable form that was easily negotiable, probably F2F and cash.

I have no end goal as to amounts. The more the better as money is available. And to me, Silver has far more upside than Gold.

Just my view!

At least i know i am not different from now regarding my chosen interest. My way of thinking is valid the same.

Only silver I have sold is to the young fella,

I didn't like the way CBA indoctrinates saving for kids with small worthless gifts at an early age.
Once I explained how banking worked he didn't want a bar of it, (clever 7 year old)

So now he buys 1 gram silver coins off me then upsizes them when he hits the correct $ amount

Was all good at the start but now he is crazy for silver and seeks odd jobs and any other ways of making money to continue to eat into my stack :/

Probably opposite here.

So many better ways I could have spent my money (with greater returns) rather than have doillars tied up in precious metals. But then again I didn't sell at the peak when I should have (when silver hit under 50). The lessons learned were good. And it was always my goal not to have thousands sitting in a bank account, feeding the most damaging institution on planet earth. So that goal was achieved, which really was my main goal.

I will probably sell most of it soon and look at putting funds in far more interesting things that get my brain far more excited (while also being a good investment). A bit cash-poor at the moment.
