Hi,
I have a very interesting situation happening. My fianc has received an inheritance from her late father in the form of 22Kgs of gold bullion. The problems come it is that she is from Ghana. She has only an inheritance document stating that the gold was her property now. She managed to leave Ghana on Sunday night but got detained at Heathrow for the gold had no legal ownership or change of ownership from her father's name.
The gold cannot be returned to Ghana without attracting serious questions that really cannot be answered. So it appears the only practical answer is to have the gold transferred into my name and I take on full ownership of the gold. This is being done in Ghana now. My question then is as the owner of this gold and it is being transported by my fianc, she will have to declare it. Any idea what happens from there? Is there any way we could be penalised for anything? Is VAT still payable in Ghana? At any rate I welcome a discussion on this as I am very torn up about this.
Thank you in advance.
