These all hatched yesterday and this morning - much to the kid's delight!

A different type of gold stacking :) Just over 30 all together.

Do I keep the ones that seem to have a bit of "toning" on them - or does that just add character? :D

Are you accusing my hens of playing around on the rooster :o

Well - maybe a little :) We swaped eggs with friends of our so we got a bit of a mixture.

The bloody budgie wont leave them alone - thinks they're great playmates although we have to take him out of there pretty quick because he thinks their toes are worms

Aww so cute! Love chooks, I have 40!
Do you know what breeds they are?
If they are any Australorps they are easy to sex. You can tell boys from girls at 3 weeks.

They are all roosters!

Best of luck :D

Looks like your place with be child central with your kids bringing their friends around over the next few days.

Edit - that is a cool looking stripey one in the top corner of the second photo

There are a selection of breeds in there - Frizzles, Australorps, Rhode Island Red, Spangled Hamburgs and a couple of others - oh and a selection of "mongrels" :)

Kids and all the neighbours kids are coming from far and wide to see them :) All good fun.

We actually don't care if they're all roosters - we actually breed them to work in the vegie garden - we have a permaculture patch where the chooks rotate onto a bed for 2 weeks to clean it up and dig it over so we can replant our next crop of vegies. Saves me weeding and digging! Need a few chooks to keep up with all the digging!

Great. We are preparing to do the same thing. Question though. How many chickens do you need vs how big an area for the rotation?

Digging!!!

I didn't think you permies still did that!

I thought it was all no-dig, waist-high gardening nowadays!

They sure are cute, reminds me of the days I used to keep pythons...

No idea, not kept any reptiles since I left the UK. No need to in Australia, I have geckos in the house anyway :)

Yea I once squished a gecko and critically hurt it by accident, tried to put the litter bugger out of its misery, but they are so squishy and flexible that no matter what I done it wouldn't die. Robust little critters. Not quite sure why im mentioning this. Must be one of those confession things. aahhhh my chest feels a lil lighter already.

Nice little chickens. Yep you can keep pythons i have 2 of them, plus some lizards, need a permit for more than 1 of course. My pythons would certainly love to curl up with some of them chickens:P

We rotate them around 2 big circles of 6 smaller circles each - covers about 250 m2 - enough to keep us pretty self sufficient (2 adults and 5 kids plus the neighbours :) ). We currently run about 15 chooks which is normally enough - but the chooks we've got at the moment seem to be lazy buggers - hence the new breeding program :)
