So why buy American Silver Eagles (Have we invaded you yet?), Canadian Maple Leafs (Clean country, hey), and what ever that Aussie thing is(Just kidding). I like them all and even the Libertads! But why do we(.you) pay a premium?

People like to mix stacking with numismatics... Sort of like stamp collecting I guess.

That would be like asking why you buy an apple compared to orange...they are all fruit...they are all nutritious...they are all available from the same shop...they are all good for snack...they are all can be use for cake making...

But same nutritional benefit, why pay more?

Variety is the spice of life.

What we call the secret of happiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose.

Nothing is pleasant that isn't spiced with variety.

Choice means saying no to one thing, so you can say yes to another.

The variety in small nothings gives more pleasure than the uniformity of somethings.

I have to agree. I pay a premium because I like them/prefer them. Might not make sense financially but want them.

For me, design/personal taste. I would happily pay a little more for a well thought out design. And as I've said in another thread, I am rather picky :)

Then again, I wouldn't mind blank rounds or something minimal like the engelhards.

I see it as a hobby and have this weird issue with buying eye candy. Even it dollar was to go to zero in value I believe that people that can afford it will seek out the rare items, the artful items, etc.

My suggestion would be to get a Panda then, definitely my favorite of the collection so far. I'm moving away from the old rare stuff and starting to poke around with the cool art items more.

Engelhards command a big premium here. Like them but last time I got married, cost me a fortune.

They seem pricey everywhere but warranted I guess, seeing as they aren't in production anymore. I do like their old school hue :)

I just sold some on ebay, they only went for about $4 over spot, was kind of disappointed. But for me I have fun to watch the huge amount of views and watchers :-)

Depends on who is online and bidding at the time. Unusual they went so cheap.

Sorry just ran the calculations again about $5 over spot, which means I got just above spot after Ebay and PayPal fees. BTW I'm an Ebay addict, typically for selling, so if anyone has questions I can probably answer them.

I also am a bit of an eBay addict. My new mantra is buy, buy, buy. Never sell.

My problem is I live to close to Seattle and I find myself getting bored and going to coin store EVERYDAY to find new cool old stuff, and find myself buying them out of anything old and rare, or eye catching. As this stacks up I find I have too big of a stock pile of something so I move it on ebay to make room for other stuff, and do to financial caps I cant keep the amount of silver I buy on a daily basis between the LCS and Ebay. I've got silver fever.
