First Post – 5oz Mother of Pearl Dragon & Rabbit – Keep Both or Let One Go?


G’day everyone,


First time posting on Silver Stackers, so I thought I’d throw this one out to the people who probably know this market better than I do.


I’ve got these two 5 oz .999 silver Mother of Pearl proof coins:


2024 Year of the Dragon – Solomon Islands
• 5 oz .999 silver
• Luxury Mother of Pearl
• Proof
• 65 mm
• Mintage: 688 worldwide
• Mine is #169/688


2023 Year of the Rabbit – Cook Islands
• 5 oz .999 silver
• Luxury Mother of Pearl
• Proof
• 65 mm
• Mintage: 888 worldwide
• Mine is #441/888


Both have their original presentation boxes and certificates.


Now here’s my dilemma.


If I had two of exactly the same coin, I’d have absolutely no problem moving one on. But these are obviously two different Lunar releases — one Rabbit, one Dragon — with different mintages, and I’m wondering whether I’d be better off just hanging onto the pair and putting them back in the sock-drawer vault for a few years.


I bought them through a dealer and paid the dealer premium, so I know these aren’t simply 10 oz of silver to be valued at spot. I’m not going to say what I paid at this stage because I’d rather hear what collectors genuinely think they’re worth without influencing anyone’s opinion.


So I’d be interested to hear:


If you owned both, would you keep the pair?


Or if you were only going to keep one long-term, which would you keep — the Dragon or the Rabbit — and why?


I’m also happy to hear from anyone who is genuinely interested in either of them. I’m open to sensible offers, but I’m certainly not desperate to sell and I’m not looking to give them away. If the right offer isn’t there, they can quite happily go back in the sock drawer.

If you want to sell them put an ad up in the for sale section. List the price, which state or territory you are located in and whether you want to post, meet face to face, and how you would like to be paid, cash, bullion, foreign or local currency.

Those are specific coins for a specific buyer. I have numismatic coins but I've never sold them, only bullion.

If I owned both, I'd hold them as I expect inflation to go higher.
