Looks like there is a new round of the Mint releasing packs of new coins at face value for this year.

Release dates for Mint promotion:

From Thursday 11 February 2016, for a limited time, the public can buy a pack of 50c (20 pieces) at face value $10 plus postage - one pack per transaction - via the Mint's website. With each transaction, the public will also receive one FREE circulating coin folder. The remaining denominations:

$2 - pack of 5 - Monday 4 April 2016
$1 - pack of 10 - Monday 6 June 2016
20c - pack of 20 coins - Tuesday 4 October 2016
10c - pack of 40 coins - Tuesday 4 October 2016
5c - pack of 40 coins - Tuesday 4 October 2016

I think it is probably going to be an empty folder as well, they would mention it otherwise.

I had a second look, still not tempted. Put them in a roll and then I might go for it for the $1, $2 and 50 cent. Plastic bags don't do it for me. You might be able to buy each bag and then put together numerous sets for sale in the free albums but...

Wouldn't want to put together 40 sets of them but if you had to it would cost you $334 and would work out to be $8.35 per set. Of course, you would only have 18 free folders to put them in.

For just the 5 sets (if you only wanted to buy 1 of each and have lots left over) it would be $100 but you would have enough folders to put them all in. $20 a complete set of uncirculated coins in a folder is not too bad compared to the cost of buying them from the mint but too high above face value for me to care too much about.

My concern is that they are so much more over face value that it is going to be tricky to recover the initial outlay. You can bet most coin collectors and dealers will be putting these aside like nobodies business. There are going to be a lot of them sitting in draws.

I think the best idea would be to flip them quick, you might do well but the people who split the Mint Year Packs who were getting $6-$9 each 50 cent coin have already made the most money (but paid more per coin so profit was probably less).

I agree that this is a popular theme among coin collectors but I am just concerned as to how many coin collectors there will be in 20 years' time.

I do not disagree with you, I'm not buying with any expectations - just a bad habit of mine if anything.
It's effectively a $10 gamble in this case, i'll eat a can of baked beans 1 day and cover the loss

I don't object to putting a few dollars their way, I am hoping that there will be a couple of these different sets available simultaneously so that I can share the postage costs.

yeah i'll go 1 each but they'll be filed away as I receive them, not going to be making sets (at least not any time soon). There was a little cheek in what I said initially, but I do legitimately have an offsite dump and forget SDB.

EDIT: and on your idea of waiting and grabbing in bundles down the track? probably a much better idea, but I get enough of a buzz upon receiving random mail that getting them separately is worth the extra cost.

haha, same. You got Magic (got a black lotus?), I went the more childish route and collected Pokmon cards. I still have complete mint sets starting from 1999 - not exactly rolling in it yet but got enough joy collecting them to make it worth it.

just states open day 2016 on the card, but that's enough to drive a different price for these.
the WMF edition of the coin has a privy mark on the actual coin.

Just received the bag of coins in the mail.

Also got the free folder to nicely pop in each new coin when they come out.

Also managed to get a mint roll of these new coins. I got heads/heads which I think is quite good in this case.
