5 oz tubes for Perth Mint coins?

Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to post this but does anyone know if tubes for Perth Mint 5 oz Lunars in their capsules might exist somewhere in the universe?

Or something that will do the job?

Tubes. 5 oz Perth Mint coins come in their own capsules.

Have a look in your pantry.. Got a tin o' baked beans handy? ;)

Most (if not all) of the common 420g canned food cans have an internal diameter of approx. 73mm, just about purrrfect for the PM 5oz coins in their capsules, and most other 5oz'ers as well...
These cans are good for 10 x 5oz coins & capsules, and most have a reduced diameter bottom rim to facilitate stacking one atop t'other.....

With the rip-top cans, you will still need to use a 'standard' type can opener (one which leaves the rim intact), wash and dry the can,
and Robert's your mother's brother... ;) removing the label is optional :lol:


Want a lid?? Do you play tennis, or know someone who does?
The plastic caps off the tennis ball tubes are a neat fit on said 420g food cans...

So there ya have it... :D

Oh I see :cool:

What I do is find some nice box close to diameter of the capsule and stand them up.
If you have lot of the 5 ozs. Pvc tubes will scratch the original capsules not ideal.
Cardboard box prefer gift box are ideal for it.
Office Work have some nice box if you are locate in Aust.
Check my post in the coming weeks. I will start a new thread stay tune...
 
Cans are not ideal. They scratch the capsules will rust if the humidity is high.
Plastic lunch box also ideal. Cardboard gift box.
Begining idea is good but you have to think of long term will it scratch the capsules & rust.
 
Only one totally sure way to find out about those tennis ball cans... Sure hope that one works out for you. That'd be the greatest "hide in plain sight" safe that ever was!

If by chance it doesn't work out, APMEX and Provident sell the 5-coin tubes and Monster Boxes that the US Mint puts those ATB pucks out in. The only problem with that system is that it takes just the coins -- the tubes and box don't accommodate coins in capsules. Not as good as keeping the coins in capsules.

The metal (aluminium??) ones would be fine (I think), but the 4-ball ones would hold 18-20 coins/caps..
Fill 'em up w/- 5oz coins (in their capsules), and you'd have 90 -100oz! (wouldn't want to drop one on ya toe!)

I find the afore-mentioned cans a convenient size for me (10 coins),
and I (ahem) "discovered" these before I found out about the similarity in size w/- the tennis ball tubes ;)

As for scratching the capsules (???)
I place capsule in can, then can in safe, I dont use the thing as a rattle (and the cans are plastic lined)... :rolleyes:

rust??? not an issue for me, and if any begin to show any signs of it, I'll simply discard and replace with another... easy as.. (YMMV)

I think those tennis cannister come in plastic or aluminium tube.
Then it wont rust. Keep some moisture absorbver pack in the tube as well.
I think they call silicar gel??

OK, so I just found a metal (steel) tennis ball canister that I didn't realise (or had forgotten) was 'laying about the place'...

Anyway, the long and the short of it is, due to the constriction at the top of the canister, it will not accept the PM, or similar 5oz capsules :(
Diameter of the tube itself is fine, but for some reason, they have this constriction at the top....
This may well be why I had discounted this idea earlier, & simply forgotten about it..

Noah's Ark 5oz'ers will go in there (smaller OD cap.), but they are not a 'neat fit' in the tube...

I had also looked at the plastic ball canisters early on, and didn't like 'em for a couple of reasons,
namely, too flimsy for my liking (considering the weight they would hold), and the tapered bottom (too unstable to be stood upright).


So, in a nutshell, it looks like my 5oz'ers will remain in the good ol' 'tucker tins' for a while yet :lol:

Yep. Same with the plastic canisters - bummer. Working through various supplement containers. So far some good for 2 oz but not 5 oz. Had looked at these before as "fake safe", after finding all those have narrowed openings at top.
