So Holden have shaken the taxpayer down for $275m, how much will Ford and Toyota now get? That's about $10 for every man, woman and child in Australia.

Just imagine how much more profitable Ford and Toyota would be if GM folded instead of standing in the welfare queue. The government of course, has to borrow this money so there is compounding interest to be paid. Hmmmmm, makes sense .... If you're insane!
 
Then you have the other side of the coin of lost jobs & the cost to the taxpayer aswell as the lost revenue of those employees not spending their wages & paying tax .

The cost to the taxpayers would be not far apart in the long run i would imagine .

By that logic we should then be saving every business that is about to fail.

No only large companies that can keep some manufacturing based in australia & prop up other jobs/businesses in the process.

Have you thought about the other jobs/businesses involved if they go under ? There is a list of suppliers/ small manufacturers as long as your arm that will be affected also. Hawkeye your always so short sighted in your of the cuff posts you need to start looking at the larger picture & the knock on effects involved :rolleyes:
 
IF there was a danger of failing maybe they would be more prudent. But as it is there is no reason to be wise and have good business $avvy as you WILL receive a bailout :( sad. A real good way of encouraging bad business by putting th onus on profitability on the tax payer, we need a Ron Paul

I'm short-sighted??? Ever heard of the pot and the kettle?

You think they won't keep on coming back for more? If they can't sell their crappy cars now why are they going to be able to in the future? All you are going to end up with is a massive waste of resources. Maybe you could get govt to give people money to buy them. I hear these schemes are quite popular among property people. People think something is too expensive then give them money to buy it and give the people producing it subsidies. Why not just institute full-on communism and get it over with?

They should bail out the poor banks, the flow on effects from unemployment of rich bankers would be detrimental to the economy.

At the moment last 2 are used a lot the first 2 are used only in small amountsit so it makes it seem that they are making things fair. Good example is mining tax; you take fom miners(rich) give very little to programs for the masses(poor) and rest used to prop up other industries like Holden(rich) etc.
 
Yes, it doesn't take too long to realise that this sort of 'stimulus' is wrong headed. A bit like spending a trillion on bombing some country to change its figurehead when a trillion of public works would work a lot better.

Remove tariffs and then use taxes to supplement the companies affected by the cheap imports that kill their market. Really smart.

I always find that governments will do everything they can to help the poor except get off their backs.

GM was coming over to my house eating at least 3 times a week. It had to stop.

I'm glad we're all chipping in. After all, this is the Freedom and Democracy we've been promised and the Freedom and Democracy we fought for.

I like the part how they think giving them free money to stick around yet slam the population with a ludicrous carbon tax to jump fuel
prices then expect people to buy there piece of junk cars..
Their sales are gonna slump regardless, the money would've been better in mine and every1 elses pocket!!!!
