Julie, did you prep the mailing and billing information online? if AusPost is similar to USPS, there will be an online receipt showing the signature delivery fee. Or, if you paid by credit card, you may also be able to get a receipt through them. Not sure if the credit card company method can provide a receipt as I never tried that method.

Lesson Learn :/

As a seller,
1. Provide SOD option, ( if street address provide by a buyer)
2. Provide a tracking number to the buyer after lodged
3. Keep on track the parcel, a bit of communication won't hurt.
4. Take photos
5. Registered the parcel with signature on delivery.
6. Keep the lodgement receipt.
7. Provide safer carrier TNT, UPS, FedEx , anyway buyer pays

As a buyer
1. Provide a safe receiving address not street address ( provide a p o box address )
2. See seller 1 , 2 , 3
3. Ask for SOD ( signature on delivery ), why SOD, your parcel can be pickup at your LPO if unattended.

Why I said this- minimise your risks b4 parcel gone missing

I guess everyone thinks they know better, but don't be sorry if this happens again.

Also, if sending overseas , a refusal to sell is not an insult, to certain countries.

Happy Trading!!!

Wait 3months... Julie W sends another package, same size, same weight (heavy coins no value) to the buyer ... Buyer sets up camera and waits for delivery... Some idiots never learn... Too clever by half!

A long shot but you never know unless you try! Start up conversation with AUS Postman, pretend to be a real blabbermouth, tell him that the PTB are getting closer to the truth and they expect an outcome soon... Magic parcel might suddenly appear.

Regards Errol 43

^^^ very genius !!!

Put some invisible staining compound mix with them.
That will prove the host playing with them

Will stain the hands for days without realise it.

don't forget, it is illegal to send precious metals via austpost !

They were COINS -- Australian legal tender -- so perfectly legal and insurable to post --- the op should have gone with insurance option

I know this is probably going to sound silly but this is literally one of the hardest things of my life i seriously cant stop thinking about it, i cant sleep. Hell my girlfriend has been talking to me and i haven't even responded because ive been so out of it. Don't risk it guys take every precaution you possibly can to avoid this believe me you don't want to end up like me its going to take a lot of letting go to get over this ive made so many sacrifices and its all gone in the blink of an eye. Probably a wake up call on my shitty life i mean if it hurts so much to loose that much money how is that reflecting on my life in general

Yes life can really smack us in the face sometimes that is for sure :(

I hope it will be resolved soon for you.

Keep your chin up.

I believe that you may be able to get a package held at your local post office these days, without the need for a PO box.

Has anyone have experience with this / can explain the process involved, so that others can hopefully avoid issues like this in the future.

PS Sorry to hear about you situation OP - I have been scammed out of ~$1500 myself by someone on gumtree. It sucks - I hope that you get a happy ending to this story though.

Yes, I already mentioned this. The service is called Parcel Collect. Has been working well for me.

I realise that, and thankyou, but thought there was also a way you could simply address your mail to be delivered to your local PO, ie Mr XYZ c/o ABC LPO etc, but havent been able to find any more information on it.

Anyway heres the Parcel Collect link, for anyone whos interested

http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/parcel-collect.html

Post Restante is what you're looking for. Use it every time I travel around Aus and has never failed.

I find it very hard to believe that a decent member of this forum who joined almost 6 years ago would not send such an amount without SoD at the very least. Has she checked her receipt?

Any chance there's CCTV in your complex?

No receipt, claims to have chucked it out. CCTV I'm waiting to hear back from the real estate agent about i have my fingers tightly crossed that there is but ive had a look and there doesn't seem to be any cameras apparent

as someone mentioned earlier, there are only a couple of places in hobart that will buy gold or silver

i would make contact with david at the the coin and stamp place in collins street 62243536

adelaide exchange jewellers in cat and fiddle arcade 6234 5000

and ask to keep an eye out for them if they try to flog them off

There is only really 2-3 possible scenarios here. If the parcel was sent signature on delivery ( as claimed ) then-

A- The postal delivery person would have had to sign it off and stolen it. Using the keypad.
B- Or you had signed off on it. If not it would be redirected to nearest post office for pickup.

C- Or the parcel was sent with no signature on delivery, was simply left in the complex and stolen.

The tracking number should reveal what type of delivery it was - ie express, parcel post, eparcel. And the post office should be able to confirm anyway. If you suspect the answer is A. Approach the postal delivery person and asked if he / she signed off on it ? If so, report the situation online to the Federal police as suspected stolen goods carried out by a postal employee. Good luck. I hope you get your coins.

The police wont even take a report or file an offence report because they believe no crime has been proven to be committed according to the law they say its simply just a missing package is it just me or has the police/law failed big time here?

Thanks guys. I have been and notified all of them now including the big 4 banks. Going to go to cash converters moonah tomorrow and let them know and have a look and see if they have turned up there

I appreciate all the kind words, input and re-assurance from everyone and in particular the personal stories I really needed the extended hand to get up from this and I just want to say thank you. Life does go on and hopefully we can all take a valuable lesson from this I know I will be!

See, it doesn't take long. Back on your feet in no time mate.

As luck would have it, I've had an alright month or so gambling the stockies on the shiny shit you've lost.

As luck would have it, I have a $200 gold proof no one seems to want.

The day you PM me your new PO Box address it's all yours.

It's not 4 coins, but it's a start.

Follow the case through. You've been rolled, and there's been some great advice here on to how solve it, but personally I'm not holding my breath.

Keep us updated, and I 100% hope you get your coins. You could end up with 5 coins in the end.

You lucky Bastard!

Chin up.

I have a 1/20 proof 2009 Kook that is taking up space. Ugly as shit and needs a PO box to go to.

Its wonderful when the smoke clears from the not-so-occasional arguing, infighting and bitching in SS threads, and you get to see real acts of generosity like this happen.

Well done guys.

They may not be the 4 coins that he purchased, but i bet they will feel all the more valuable..

nice1 scrooged, belvedere, stoic phoenix. Severous, if you do set up a po box, pm the details and a couple of 1937 crowns, a 1964 silver kennedy half dollar and a 1966 round fifty are on the way.
