Agreed, the design they went with is nice, but given the other candidates I think they were crazy not to go with the design featuring the turtle in the water peaking it's head out. Also, the effigy mounds design with the hands holding the earth and landscape in the background was way better than the ultra boring undetailed design they went with. Since we stopped going after ATBs when they cranked up the mintages on the BUs I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed in their 2017 selections LOL

Hi SilverSiren,

I starter my 5 oz. silver ATB collection nearly 3 years after the first year of release. I only purchased the "P" uncirculated version of each issue (and I hope to assemble a complete "P" version collection when the series ends in 2021) until about a year later when on rare occasion I would purchase a bullion version that I liked or thought had numismatic value including some top graded slabbed bu issues.

So the fact that the US Mint significantly stepped up production numbers of the bu version in 2016 hasn't negatively impacted the value of my collection in my view.

The more people quit the series the less P version coins will be minted. Maybe ... lol But you are right. US mint could do better!!!

I originally thought the Roosevelt was pretty good, and was planning on buying the P version when it came out.

But the more I looked at it over time, all these design things kept popping up that I didn't initially see -- and totally turned me off.

Gonna have to pass on this one.
