Heard a solid rumour at the FUN Show that next years Panda will be 30 grams - no longer a troy ounce. Basically 2015 is the "transition" year with no markings, but still the full 1oz.

My guess is they want a metric bullion coin - I think it's misguided though. Don't see any ISO 4217 currency codes for a gram of silver.
If you were going to go metric, wouldnt 50grams would be a better replacement for the 1oz size.
100g to replace the 2oz, 250g the 5 oz etc..
A roll of 20 coins = 1kg is a lot rounder in metric terms than any mulitples of 30 grams.
Is the 30g size just so people can still use the 1oz spot price to see value without havin to do any calcs?

Try 31.25g for a metric ounce.
4 would be 125 grams
8, 250g
16, 500g
and 32 would be a kilo.
Simples.

I am ok with it. There are already metric bars, I guess if I particularly wanted Pandas then I might scratch my head a bit.
Troy ounces, Avoirdupois, ounces, troy pounds, Imperial measures and US customary measures etc. Metric system is fine, there are no traps for the unwary.
I can Google how many troy ounces in a troy pound, and I can calculate how to work out the spot price in grams but why bother?
If they publish the spot price in grams and sell the new rounds in metric amounts then life will have one less minor inconvenience. In this day and age we have the resources to publish the price in metric, troy ounces and any currency we like.

:lol:If it is priced right and looks nice then people will not be over bothered I wouldn't think. If it is the same price as the current Pandas then people might get a bit miffed about their missing 1 gram.
