2016 Chinese Panda coins just came in!

Got my Ag 1-oz'ers (sorry, 30-gram'ers) in recently..


Have to say, not terribly impressed.

Glad I got them, for the most part.


However..


- Minting quality / condition isn't the greatest. I understand it's "just bullion," but my last ones (2014's) were minted better

- Will never be happy about the switch from 1-oz to 30g. That has nothing to do with "standards," but everything to do with $$$

- Still early in the season, and dealers have already been jacking up the premiums & pre-stealing more of the upside. And combined with the above two, at that??


And yes, these are legit ones, purchased from a reputable dealer who's not much into slabbing. Could be wrong, but don't believe these were cherry-picked.

Just not wow'ed like I was with the 2014, for example.

I skipped over the 2015's (due to lack of composition, purity & weight) -- and I think the Panda will be on a case-by-case basis for me each year.

Gonna have to wow me with the design (and improve the minting quality) for me to be a future buyer.


My wallet isn't as deep as my shopping list is long, and I think there are better places to spend my money for my collection.

if you bought from that big us dealer that cracks lunar rolls and send 20 single pcs to their clients be sure they are cherry picked.
i guess you are only safe if you buy a sealed monsterbox with 510pcs.

Pre-screening is very pervasive. It takes time to learn that lesson!

Some think it is more pervasive than it really is, but if a person has been shafted once, that person thinks every experience is one where the coin is cherry picked. I have never cherry picked! Actually, let me take that back, I have cherry picked in favor of the client buying from me, as some of you can attest. I've shown videos and had you chose the best of the lot I have. I've sent pictures and have you choose the best of the lot. Just because something may look off, doesn't mean that person cherry picked. Maybe it's not as pervasive as some here think, and only imagine that it is, because perhaps they would cherry pick if they were in a similar situation as the dealer?

P.S. What is a loupe anyway, never owned one.

You voice will not hear by china Gold corp who is the sole distributor for all MCC and panda bullion coins. They are not SS member like Perth mints, Choice mints and so on. They also do not act as reader read at behind like others.

I agree the quality of 2016 is no better than previous years like 2014 and 2015.

Do you aware that one batch of 2013 and 2011 panda coin NGC MS70 are full of spot. They sell cheap in market and clearly state this problem. They price it around 45 per pc to recover the cost not even loss single cents. However, those spot panda sold off very fast even dealers do state clearly in the advertisement in ebay. I do not like coin full with white spot BUT it does happen which cannot be avoid forever. You do not buy it BUT others.

Many other mints coins has white spot NOT specialise Panda bullion coin LOL.

I have bought 100 pc NGC 2016 MS70 early release panda coin and 30 pc MS69 early release. The quality is obviously not as good as 2014 and 2015. However, it grade MS70. Is this NGC problem or the mints problems? Will majority or even 20% of the collectors in the market not buying it? MY 100 pcs MS70 left 20 pcs MS69 left 15 Pcs. This have clearly tell you the answer from collectors.

2015 might be a key date in longer term due to the lack of composition, purity & weight.

I understand you will consideration of ""Panda will be on a case-by-case basis for you each year."" You take panda coin as bullion with high premium by comparing to other bullion. Thus, the quality must be much superior. I take the view differently. I view panda is semi-numic which worth the higher premium even the quality is not superior than other bullion. As long as comparable quality will do.

It is free market when demand is low supply is high price is high. As consumer you can choose to buy or not buy. I do not think dealers can control the whole market and manipulate the price since the mintage is 8 mio which dealer need huge capital take control 30% of the inventory of 8 mio. So I strongly believe the panda 2016 sell is free market.

They don't offer very many graded coins from the past couple years.

And no graded 2016 Panda's at the moment.

Plenty of coins, sheets & sealed monster boxes, though.

I don't think they were cherry-picked anywhere along the line.



Eh, I'm just getting really down on modern bullion coins these days.. It's a reflection on mints as well as many of the larger dealers.

And because of that, my tastes, purchases, sales, strategies/philosophies & resulting stack/collection have definitely been shifting pretty rapidly.

Depends on what exactly you're buying, when, and from whom.

Based on one's answer to that, odds of getting crap could easily increase, sadly..
