2016 1oz Kooks - the milk spotting may have already started!

A member pointed out that the official PerthMint video of the 1oz silver kook seems to show a developing milkspot above the R in DOLLAR. A bit hard to tell given how brief of a glimpse we get, but it looks suspicious. What do people think?

Never noticed that one before.

But saw some "suspicious activity" during my 1st screening of the vid, which can be seen even better while watching..

It's frustrating that it's a known issue that keeps on popping up, and that nothing is done about this.

I just hope it won't be as bad as the 2016 kangaroos or 2015 funnel webs.

If that turns out to be the worst-case on some of them, i won't mind.
I've seen lots of so called proofs (at multiples of spot) from other mints with more defects than the Perth bullion range

edit: funnel-web & kangaroo aside, of course! But their lunar/kook/koala are exceptional bullion, when considered in general.

nice. Thanks for sharing. Just helped me make my decision to stick with my silversaver account vs. spending extra on the premium of the kook. No thanks. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya, Perth Mint. Can more folks confirm the milk spotting issue for us on the 2016 kooks? I guess if you buy 20 in the perth mint roll, one is sort of blind about what is happening underneath the hood. When you go to sell the roll, they could be riddled with spots, but who would know? And if someone unwraps the roll, and sees spots galore, and tries to return it, well, that won't work, because the guarantee will be based on returning the product as is. lol. Anyway, Perth Mint you suck for heading down the same path as the other mints. Good riddance. Silversaver here I come.

SO, no one has reported milkspots on the 2016 kooks yet, just members putting the
boot into the PM from viewing a still image from a video.

I just cracked a roll and from a reasonably quick check without removing most from
the capsules, I can not see any evidence of milking or milkspotting.

I did unfortunately come across a small scratch at 12 o'clock, just above lizzies crown
and another between the last A in Australia and the dot

And these scratches were not a one off, in fact 11 out of the 20 that I checked
had the same scratches in the same location, at the same angle and length,
and were both on the same 11 coins and not on the other 9, so could be a die issue?.

Any other members who actually purchase PM coins and have a 16 kook
have the same issue.

It is not a game changer for me but will definitely effect the number of 69/70 coins being slabbed IMO

This kook is still one of the most striking coins the PM has made IMO

Anyone else notice the scratches

I will always choose to have PM under control of myself and the more the "silversaver" is gov i would not trust them.
They rip us of with manipulation in all parts of our live.
Better to accept some spots than trust any third party !
Maybe the mint loves to give you spottys to bring weak people to the gov pm accounts instead of buying bullion ?
The fiat money party has to go on and these accounts are only another part of the game.

Not to sure how this will go, but will give it a try

Looks more like a scratch than it does in the pics, but very hard to get a good
image of as it is very light dependant

cheers

I only bought 2 but they are perfect no milk spots or scratches at all. 2016 bullion kook is a quality made coin, I put it in the same league as the 2014 and 2015 WTE. You cannot compare the FWS and 4 9,s kanga to this coin they are in a different class just to the naked eye.

as mentioned earlier, they should have made these more frosted like the 2008's if they knew, and they definitely know, there was a problem with spotting. there is a lot of proof areas that can show the spots. at least with frosted, it hides a little better. :D

Not just the kook. This is a monkey I have. Spots just under the jaw and base of the neck.

what does it look like out of its case, very hard to tell from your pics in the case, looks like the case
has seen better days, was this straight from a roll? or did you buy it single

I think the way they have done the frosted, matt and mirror surfaces really helps this kook standout, and give it a classy look,
yes frosted surfaces hide better but mirror looks better IMO

there is no evidence of spotting on these 2016 kooks as yet, there may be down the track but at present no spotting.

the two areas I mentioned on 11 out of 20 of one roll, are not milk spots, and are not from the blanks, I really hope that
it is just a die problem that they picked up pretty quickly, does anyone know how many production lines would the kook run on
and how often do they thoroughly check the coins coming from the line, would it be every 20 or 50 or more coins

cheers grant

I got a couple 1-oz 2016 Kooks recently from a large US dealer..

Everything looks fine out of the capsule -- so far, anyway.

Interesting, though, that both capsules are noticeably scratched.. Somebody been handling & picking through them?

Don't really care, as the coins look fine, and I transfer them to a better air-tite, anyway.

Nice-looking coin. Bet it looks great in the larger sizes..

I just got some too. The design is superb. I haven't checked any closely for spots yet.
