2014 Kilo Silver Libertad soon to be shipping from the mint

So consensus for those sourcing these in Australia is apmex, group buys or through USA members? Any advice from Australian SSers that have done this before. Pm if preferred :)

If you buy something like this from Apmex they WILL be picked over grading rejects.

My company has sold out of these (including a bunch to Australia), so my suggestion would be to contact MDAMDA (who posted on the first page of this thread). Even though he's a new member here, he's a very reputable member on ebay who I've personally done a bunch of business with and most here will probably recognize his ebay name after communicating with him.

If in real life they are as awesome as they are in pictures and videos I have seen of gold Libertad's, then yes, they must be awesome and why the mint would cease production is a bit of a mystery to me. I wonder if a huge dealer like APMEX told the mint that they'd order a significant amount whether the mint would go back into production to fill that request?

I don't know how that type of thing works.

Either way, a 2014 gold Libertad may be something for me to be on the lookout to buy when I can scoop together enough cash for one.

There are still gold libertads of other years available on apmex.

I would get the 1981 though. Old skool!

The Apmex ones appear overpriced to me. Looking at ebay, there isn't a lot of demand for the 1oz gold libertads, bullion or proof.

Which specific annual gold coins do consistently garner high demand on eBay?

I don't deal in numismatics, so I might not be the best person to answer that question. I think a lot of the coins run in cycles. Two years ago, I saw a 2011 Fiji Pacific Gold Sovereign go for as high as $2500 and a 2000 dragon about $25-2400. Now the Fiji didn't sell for $1600-1700 and a friend bought a dragon a few months ago for about $1700. So, even the mighty lunars are affected either by cycles, series dates or even gold prices. For those of us in the US, the 1 oz lunars still seem like the best gold bullion coin for potential premium appreciation. I am not sure any other coin can compete with the advantages of the 1oz gold lunar coin have a limited mintage of 30,000, an annual design change, and a series that will likely to continue for a very long time. Plus in the US, the coin is normally available for $100 over spot in the first few months after issuance.

If Apmex keeps the lower premium $70-80 on the Somalia elephants and keeps the buy back premium at $35, the elephants are a decent alternative. The big problem is their is no local market for those coins and you are captive to Apmex offering a decent buy back premium. Gainesville is out of the 2014 elephant and offers no buy back price.

Of course if you need quick resale in the US, AGEs are still king.

The kilo proof like libertad is a must have for me this year. Gonna have to have somebody else push the button on it tho. Paying that much for a kilo is robbery

Curious to know what the 2014 5 oz BU situation is. APMEX only has 96 for pre-sale at the moment listed for 250.00 each. :|
 
Allocation for 5 oz BU was extremly poor - if there won't come more coins this will be a very hot Libertad year

Only 500 ?

That makes the 2014 PL silver kilo Libertad the second lowest mintage (along with the 2005 and 2012) next to the 2013.

Time now to re-allocate more funds from my retirement savings! :o
