2013 Perth Mint Snake Group buy??

Hi all,

This is my first year of stacking and this September will be my first experience with a Perth Mint lunar release. I'm hoping to buy a 1oz gold Snake and a roll of 1oz silver snakes.

My question is, what is the best way to go about making these purchases? I understand demand will be high but I'm not sure how hard these coins are to get. Would I be better to buy from the Perth Mint website or does th Silver Stackers community usually rally and organise group buys saving everyone some money?

I'm loving this forum at the moment and any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello apples, some dealers had a pre-order. They were from memory Roo, BullionBourse and Goldstackers. They will advertise on this forum if they are doing it again.
 
I'll be looking to stock them, to date no allocations have been announced, but given the poor experience that pre-orders with Dragons created, I doubt anyone would be willing to do pre-orders for these coins.

Key point here is no allocations have been announced by the mint - they're not expecting advance orders to take the entire mintage like happened with the Dragons, but it means *no-one* is guaranteed supply.
 
remember what happened last year prices on eBay were outta control now lucky to get 50 bucks for a 1oz dragon, so i will buy some if they are the right price but will not get caught up in the madness history is meant to be learned from yes?

I started it :D

I got $70 from the boss inside the Perth Mint on the day for a single Dragon
And when I arrived I got $100 for each & every coin I flipped :P

But when I ran out
I paid between $90-$60 each to get a couple back :lol:

Let's see where I can set the bar this year ;)
 
I think what the perth mint mean when saying lunar snakes
is not the issue, lunar snakes are the dealers hoarding them to make the lunar series seem popular.

although I like snakes, and they will help remove dragons off the shelf a lot quicker, even though there's still 6 months of the year of the dragon to go, I'm a monkey so have a few years to wait but the way it's going wouldn't supprise me if monkeys will be available end of next year.

Anyone know if you're allowed to pick-up your order from the mint after making an internet order?

I tried.. no (for me at least)
 
Be very careful commiting to pre orders. If you don't know why - ask anyone who was around for the pre order dragon disaster last year.

yep you can, it gives you that option instead of postage.
I assume your talking about the collector website?
postage is free for orders over $300 so no point in spending money on a bus ticket.

if you buy just one coin it's $7.50 postage so not too bad but still, if your close enough it would be more fun to shop in store.

No, bullion Snakes will be sold through the bullion website, pickup is not an option.

This is different from the Perth Mint Shop. You need to sign up online and present proof of ID to Australia Post.

Have a test run in August to see if it works. Try to buy something. Forget password, get them to send it to you and write it down.

Get up early to buy on the day of release.

Make 55 attempts to buy the maximum allocation over a period of two hours.

Post on Silver Stackers about the system crashing.

Read other posts about the system crashing.

Finally place your order.

Pay online.

Receive an email from PM saying you have ordered more than the limit and all your orders are cancelled.

Apologise to workmates for your language.

Call mint and explain situation, they already know! (nice lady on the phone)

Read about how everyone bought them the next day with no problems.

Read about how they are going to upgrade the system so it doesn't crash next year.

Coins are delivered to your home during the day by the special service. It is so special that they do not leave them or drop them off at the local post office.

Drive to airport or pay $17 to have them delivered to your work address.

They were selling for $100, now they are selling for $60.

Next year promise to flip them straight away and not hold on to them.

Listen to the tales of woe as the dealers pre sold more than they received.

Wait until prices drop to about $10 more than you paid for them.

Wonder what all the fuss was about.

Promise not to get caught up in the hype again next year.

Repeat.

In all seriousness it sounds like the Perth Mint website might be the safest option (if it doesn't crash)?

Assuming you log in on launch day are you a good chance to get what you want?

yeah we've been buying from the bullion website,
never a problem but you wouldn't buy bullion coins from perth mint would you?
that's why I assumed the collector website as the question was "off topic" so who's to know what he meant?
we just buy bars, or collectables, bullion snakes will be much cheaper everywhere else but the pm.

go to bullion bourse, they will have them cheapest no question about it.
