Looks like PM copied this dragon and slightly changed the head position.

Silver dragon is still hot this time around .... gold dragon I am sure most of us buys to complete collection, not hoard in huge amount.

The pictures are nine dragon screen or nine dragon wall in Beijing Beihai park. There are several versions of this nine dragon screen, the one in forbidden city is bit different from this one in Beihai park.
 
looks like the general sentiment is no more than a whimper for these designs................would be interesting to find out (BRON) how these designs are vetted or chosen. Perhaps it was a sequence of events that saw these designs chosen ages ago.......perhaps even way back when the first series was confirmed????.....is BRON able to shed some light here?....
 
Bron doesn't work in the coin division of the mint.

New designs for the forthcoming coin are prepared each year, the full series is not designed in advance. Series I had several different artists for example, and I would hazard a guess that Series II already has a few different artists as well.

The gold dragon looks like it's frowning - after being run over by a semi-trailer and flattened like a pancake

Guess I'd be frowning as well if I was still alive :/
 
i don't know about you fellas but i am not so sure its a "fire ball" in the way we think of it and inclined to wonder if it is a celestial reference to a "ball" of "fire" but then again i havent studied this area of history/mythology ...
 
given that 2012 is the year of the WATER dragon surely it would have made at least the vaguest bit of sense to not have them playing with fireballs?

thats the thing ... i am not so sure it is a fire ball per se but possibly a celestial reference ... the idea of a water dragon is different from a "dragon" emerging from the waters ... at least where certain cultures have described creatures that emerged from the sea but are not from the sea ... or this Earth for that matter ...

yeah that's interesting. the Chinese Water Dragon according to Wikipedia is a green lizard, similar to the Australia Water Dragon.

would have been a bit too difficult to capture the essence unless it was the colourised version.
