A quick question about the special coins for the opening of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway.

Is it reasonable to pay $215 for the silver 1oz version of these coins? They come in a box with a coa and have a limited mintage:

10 Yuan 1 oz. silver Panda coin mintage 30,000
(100 Yuan 1/4 oz. gold Panda coin mintage 10,000)

Thanks in advance!

Beautiful set you were linking to there, fishball!

Yes, I am certain that the Silver one comes in a box, but smaller. A wood box, and seemingly carton outside...

The limited mintage makes me want to pounce on it.

Ah you're right. It's a red white box with COA.

I guess it's limited mintage and all but seems a bit expensive for my tastes.

These new panda 2011 sets were released with a very high price, makes me wary.

It's like they are becoming the Perth Mint, releasing random proof sets/coins at amazingly high prices and end up being duds.

And I'm not saying that because I dislike the 2011 design :P

Hehe, fishball, let's hope I will not regret it. I love pandas and I love high speed trains, even though the latter have had recent problems in China. Hope that doesn't jinx the coin...

I will keep in mind what you're saying about this inflation in new products. Food for thought. I wouldn't get an anniversary that doesn't really appeal to me, but high speed trains...can i say something like pfoarrrrrrr, or is it trademarked?

I prefer buy 2001, 2003 if you look to pay premiums. I was pay 90 for 2001
And 107 and 120 for each 2003 (i buy 2)
In us dollars

I am also looking at that coin for the same reasons.
I like trains more than banks, so would get that one before the bank commemoratives..
It's just the price but that's pandas.

So, what do you think, Chillidog? Are you going to go for it? I feel a little bad for paying this price, I could have bought 5 of the regular 2011 Silver Panda... or 4 and a half... Still, I imagine when it's in my hands, I will forget any buyer's remorse, no?

How many other pandas do you own? If it's your first few ,maybe you would be better with more of the later years.
I have multiple sets 2000/2011 as wall as 5oz and gold fractionals so for me I am used to panda prices and am looking for unique coins to add to the bear family.
It also depends on why you buy coins
To flip in the future for profit or keep for you own enjoyment. If it's for the latter. Does the price really matter? You will enjoy the coin long after you forget the price..
It would be nice to get the coin closer to the $169 in pricepedia.

Well, I have a little handfull of pandas at the moment, 2004, and 2008-2011. Around 20 in total. More on the way from Yennus, though. I've also started to get into the 50 yuan silver coins. Gold is still something I'm only thinking about...

I think what I'm learning more and more here, is that I need a strategy. I am just being guided a little too much about what's available in the stores/internet stores, and I feel I need to buy more discriminately, to avoid spreading myself too thin. If there is some great thread for strategies on the forum somwhere, I'd like a pointer. (Loved the flowchart that was presented recently, it was pretty accurate for me.)

I think i will not be flipping too many pandas for a while, but maybe some other coins I bought, in order to get more pandas... So in the end, I agree with you, I will probably forget about most prices once the deal is done.

As to how you would get the coin closer to the 169 in pricepedia, this seems like a mystery to me in Europe. Maybe it's easier in Austrlia? I imagine the China price is the price as the coin was issued? Is this correct?

It's almost impossible to get coins from China at pricepedia (China) prices due to the shipping/restricted access of foreigners.

I guess you could ask yennus to fly to Shanghai and buy them for you :P

The cheapest I can find this coin for is pretty much $225 AU.

Had a quick look around. I agree with Fishball
Best price for a single coin,I could find was $223..
Come on Yennus I know you can do a better price.lol, pretty please

Hahah... okies... give me 24-48hours to get a price. :)

I haven't been on a Panda hunt for the last 2 days, so i'm feeling a bit itchy to go on another one.

This is a good enough reason :)

Haha yeah...they commemorate banks, infrastructure, financial centers, special people (like Presidents) :|

Wish they'd 'commemorate' (as in recognize) June 4th but that's a stretch :P

Hehe, they commemorate horticulture...that's kinda flowery, no? June 4th would be a stretch, I think...

The 2006 Shenyang Horticultural expo is much cheaper, around $120 per coin with COA and BOX, cheaper than the bullion version.

Might buy some hahaha.
