ALIEXPRESS COUNTERFEIT LUNAR SKULLS GOAT COIN

I spoke with Son-Montuno today and he asked me to relay a message to the Silverbug community and others. He is aware of the counterfeits being offered by Aliexpress and has looked into it. He is going to contact the seller and tell them to stop producing these yet as most are aware this may not happen. The Chinese are mass producing fakes of any and every popular coin and round. Son-Montuno is trying to get the real Lunar Skulls out the door as quickly as possible while maintaining a high level of quality and customer service. These are his priorities along with keeping his next project on track on top of his continued Ebay store site operation. He will respond to all emails as he has in the past but would appreciate if customers or potential buyers would check the SM Mint website for updates first. He will update the site with any new info immediately and will refer most questions there. He cannot send mass updates through Ebay's site he has inquired about this. He is in the process of setting up ways to do this and knows people want to keep informed but until then please refer to SM Mint. http://smmint.com/

As the site says tentative shipping date is end of January and he apologizes for the delay.

About the counterfeits, Son Montuno is willing to do all he can to keep these from being struck and sold. Now according to AliExpress they will ban this seller if they receive an Intellectual Property complaint from Son-Montuno. After he contacts the seller if they do not cease he will file this complaint. I know many are disappointed and upset they are being offered so if you can spare the time please visit this site and see if there is anything else Son-Montuno or collectors/stackers can do. At first I thought anyone could file a complaint but it turned out not to be the case. Yes, I'm sure they will pop up with a new profile but it's possible they will not offer these at least I don't know if it will help but at least he is willing and trying to do something. If anyone knows of anything else he can do let me know here or PM me and I will relay it to him-If feasible he will do it!

I am not Son-Montuno or an employee of his only a friend trying to help out and keep our community informed and possibly screw some douche bags selling fakes!

UPDATE: Son Montuno filed the complaint with Aliexpress last night then after contacting the seller he has agreed to stop selling them.

of negotiation but I convinced him that it was in his best interest to remove"

...for now, and until more tentacles grow. Oh, and that seemed pretty simple. Why doesn't the PM do the same? I understand that they are saying 'plated,' but still, it looks similar in every way and has a $ attached to it.

As far as i understand, the Chinese are NOT obligated to stop manufacturing imitations/fakes nor is it illegal for them to sell these in China or over the WWW. Apparently, according to San Montuno, he convinced the seller to stop selling these but you are right in your caution....until this grows tentacles. The agreement is not a legally binding agreement and the seller could just as easily have his brother sell them and it would mean he is probably not breaking his agreement with San Montuno.

I definitely don't like the fact that imitations are being marketed in such a way that it is deceptive and the imitations could easily be mistaken as the real original product. But as it stands now, there's little to nothing that can be done legally to prevent these imitations from being produced and sold. As a community, we can all remind each other (as we are doing in threads like this) to be aware that well made fakes are being produced and sold.

Every time I read a thread like this I am reminded of how valuable certain technologies are, like the Sigma's Precious Metals Verifier: http://www.sigmametalytics.com/

Yeah, but that thing is no good on a real silver coin...so instead of there only being 500 out there...these fakes, with REAL SILVER (spot is so low!!), could make it 1000 or 10,000....that would suck. And if they are fetching 200-300, why not use the real stuff???

Why don't *all* the larger mints do the same?

How much, if any, are each working with their country's respective agencies in charge of combatting counterfeit currency (the Secret Service, in the US's case, for example)?

Sure, it's a game of whack-a-mole, and there is the whole international border "issue." But it shouldn't only be an end-consumer / buyer-beware type thing. There's a whole chain, from the producers, the 1st-line sellers, the intermediaries such as eBay, etc.

Agencies should be going after each & every point along that continuum.

I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like they are all that much.

As far as I understand, real, solid silver fakes are only being made for rare coins, not modern coins like the Lunar Skulls. I think it's too costly to make a truly convincing, well produced imitation from solid .999 silver and make a good profit if the going price is below a certain level. With the rare numismatics imitations that are being made from solid precious metal, the value of the genuine real coins that the fakes are being made to resemble, are in the hundreds or thousands of $$ range and so the time, energy, resources, and money used to make a solid precious metal imitation is worth it. I doubt we have to worry at all that solid precious metals fakes of common, ordinary American Eagle's or other modern low premium coins are being produced....it just wouldn't pay for them to do this.

^ I think that was expected. My guess is that the BU's will get sold out too especially after the first of the shipments go out and some people start conversing about the BU's and what will probably be a high quality silver BU coin.

I should check to see if First Coin Co still has the BU's for the lower price.

.

looks like my price for 225.00 is a good one so far.:-)) Let's see what happens once the coin is released. Pop or fiz. To da moon or down the stairs? tic, toc...time will tell. All I know, is I have 2, and they were 'free.' hehehe. I wish I bought 10 (could have too), and sold 5. :-) Oh well...I'm now doing the coulda, shoulda, woulda, all over myself.

Perhaps we can learn a lesson from this coin release. SilverStackers may be the barometer for new coin releases....in other words, If it's hot on SS and if you are looking for coins to flip quickly, then you'll have a good idea which one's to buy just by taking notice of which ones are getting lots of traction here.

looks like my 225.00 is in line with the most recent sale 222.00. Sounds about right. That 500.00 purchase price was funny business on the part of some folks...and won't mention names. I think prices level off around here...and go lower? Who knows. Time will tell. But, but, of course, if this was SM's listing, he's certainly get 500.00 afterall, its SM's product. What pure and utter B.S.

Ah, then I noticed it's same seller.:/

Few months ago I needed to sell few Stock Horses. Difference between lowest and highest price was almost 300%.

Right time, right place.
And right golden cow.^^

The Lunar Skull proofs are no different.

Per sold eBay listings, they've ranged anywhere from approx $200-$350 USD.

That first $590 or whatever was a fluke & an outlier.

Reserving judgement for whatever happened there. And if the buyer was legit, I feel a bit sorry for them. Same goes for any 2nd-Chance buyers in that auction.

Then again, nobody forced them to enter that amount..

I have a sneaking suspicion that the 'them' being forced was someone aligned with SM to create an illusion...I know, I have no proof, just a hunch. :-)
