1oz silver Panda vs 1oz silver Lunar Dragon

Hi Guys,

I'm currently accepting 1-to-1 swap offers, my 2011 pandas for your 1oz Lunar II dragons. :)

Over the long term, could the 2012 1oz silver Panda really outperform the 1oz silver 2012 Lunar II Dragon? Even with the vast differences in the mintages? What about Lunars in coming years? what are your thoughts?

The 2012 panda isn't out yet... you can't compare 2011 to 2012 lol.

Yeah, I did realise that. ;) Okay, for the sake of argument shall we pit the 1oz silver 2011 Panda against the 2012 Lunar Dragon? Where do you think things will go? 1 year from now? 2 years? Etc.

Pandas still have the problem of being pandas. Stupidly large number of knockoffs kicking around. I wont touch them with a 10 ft pole.

He got me buying pandas and I never had any intention of doing so. :/ Maybe he'll leverage their cuteness versus the ferocity of the dragons. Anyway, I'm expecting a well reasoned argument, but no swap offers. The question then is... if I put up the same swap offer in six months, one year or two years would people be falling over themselves to accept such an offer?

People keep saying that yet I've never bought nor seen a fake knockoff.

Never seen a fake ASE either though.

Scaremongering really imo. If you use some common sense it's pretty easy to avoid the fakes.

Depends on what happens once US releases the dragons. Prices may get driven down and the hype die down. Or maybe not.

Personally I am starting to see the 2011 Panda appreciate already, it is hard to get a decent supply at a decent price and even if you buy 600 at once the price is still spot +$10 or more.

Will they out perform dragons short term? No. The hype is too strong on dragons.

In the mid-long term? Anybody's guess. Recall that 2000 dragons were to be had for $50 US a while back.

I would definitely buy a $50 2011 panda over a $90 or $100 2012 dragon though.

2011 panda current price around 60 bucks and 2012 Dragon Lunar current 90 bucks, so honestly I donnot think ppl will swap this offer with you

No, I won't get any offers. But somewhere down the road? I'm pretty certain Lord Dragon would never do such a swap though :)

No I think not. When you can make entire pages dedicated to fakes. There is an issue.

Its hardly suprising. 90% of things coming out of china are fakes.

That's because there are so many varieties of Pandas. How many varieties of Maples/ASEs are there? Uh... one.

Look, of course there are fakes out there but they are not hard to spot if you exercise some common sense. It becomes second nature after a while much like spotting 999 mills bars or 'tibetian silver'.

As for 90% of things coming out of China are fakes, lol you better not own any of the following:
Car, TV, computers, phone, clothes, pants, shoes, toys, laptops, hard drives etc etc

Because chances are they have components made in China.

Not 1 to 1, maybe 2 dragon 3 panda down the road. If the dragon mania ever settles that is. Otherwise it will be 2:1

I agree. "90% of things coming out of china are fakes" is a grossly incorrect, misinformed statement to make.

If there are only one type of Maples and ASE they should be easier to copy and fake.
Yet there are not that many fakes out there. And by that logic, there are plenty of types of PM coins yet they seem to have few copies as well.

You shouldnt NEED to spot fakes. The chinese governement should be rounding up and throwing the counterfeiters in prison.
But they dont care, they are to busy stopping people from using facebook.

Well we hear that lots of coins from china are fake but yennus said that most of them are outside china and most of the coins from within china are original. But I think selling fake coins in china does not carry the death penalty these days,

I'll just let [del]tennis[/del] yennus handle this, I'll grab some popcorn.

Yes I saw that donkarnash :)

The mintages are going to be the long term kicker in Aus. The availability vs the population in China will keep the panda demand strong IMO....

In saying that I would happily swap 2x2011 Pandas for 1 proof 2012 dragon. Any takers?
