This blatant eBay style fraud should be banned. Already up to $38 for something basically worthless !

1oz Pure German Silver .999 ingot bar / WITH CASE!!

Item: 260846582006

German silver??? What so Australian or Chilean silver isn't good enough now? And since when did Germany have silver mines anyway?

That's so sad, look at his feedback and the amount of innocent people he's ripping off. I guess it's their own fault for being uneducated but still... makes me a little angry.

'tain't silver... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_silver

Actually quite a useful alloy, but nonetheless... 'tain't silver.... ;)

:)

Okay so I was off the mark :P

Pretty dubious to suggest that "...it'll increase in value as the price of silver escalates" when it contains no silver D:

hello - i'm on it.

i found this thread by searching to see if people discuss this and found this forum.

i have been running a 'warning' as an ad (i'm not selling anything) you can find if you search for BULLION CLAD WARNING - but someone notified me about "german silver" and i found it to be true so i started to run another warning you can find by searching for GERMAN SILVER WARNING. anyway, the old version of my GS Warning identified DDC-INC by name, and i based the photoshop art on an image from his ad with the superimposed bold words GERMAN SILVER IS NOT SILVER - a nice side effect to that was that when i viewed his items ebay includes similar items at the top of the page and they were my warnings! anyway, DDC contacted me and we had this lovely exchange:

Dear 3hree,
You need to take my picture down right now. You are utilizing slander and you are way over the lines of ebays policies. I honestly dont care what you do. just DO NOT use MY PICTURES. This is a warning. I will have your account banned if you do not take them down by 12pm on 9/12/11.. You're not allowed to use the following if you're not authorized to do so by the owner, its agent, or the law: Photos and text from other eBay users
Photos and text copied from websites
Scans from catalogs or advertisements
- ddc-inc

Dear ddc-inc,
you don't understand appropriation and how dare you accept $40 from someone who is worried about their savings, don't you have a mother or family or friends you are despicable
- 3hree

Dear 3hree,
I put these on for .99 cents. I did not do anything wrong. THIS IS PURE GERMAN SILVER. This is a auction, If I sold one for 500 dollars that would not be my fault.
Dont worry about me. Take down my pictures now. Or I will get the law involved. This is a trademark, Not for everyone to use.
- ddc-inc

Dear ddc-inc,
"They will increase in value as the price of silver escalates." [as people on this forum are aware, that's a quote from his ad]
and besides you know 1000% that the only way someone pays $40 for that crap is because they think it's silver - if some kid offered you a $20 instead of a $1 you'd take it. you're not only a liar you are lowly and know it.
- 3hree

Dear 3hree,
Not here to argue. Take my picture down, period.
Thanks

after that he removed his ads - though certain to reappear.

but there's more - his mainstay was selling gold flakes, but these bars were indeed selling for upwards of silver spot price. someone contacted me who was wondering if he took the proceeds from his sales and bought real silver so they said they looked at his feedback as buyer and discovered that one of his purchases was for $50 worth of imitation gold leaf. i'm certainly not saying his gold flakes are not real 24 karat, but agree with my informant that anybody who purchases something as lame as gold flakes probably does not have the initiative or wherewithal to check it out. just saying.

thanks for letting me share all that, nobody in the outside world seems to care!

Great work Silvstack, heck I don't even know what "German Silver" means. If I was in the market for some silver bars and saw that listing, I would've bid on it.

I would have been another caught if I saw this ad.

If it is this fake combination then why is it still listed as .999?

I knew "german silver" was an alloy, even as a newbie, because I reasoned they would call it "silver" if it was silver. I looked it up on Wikipedia. Is tibetan silver really poisonous? I'd heard that too.

thank you Silvstack for the ebay seller authenticity challenge.

more fraud German silver bars never say .999 on the bar.
Tibetan silver is a pewter silver mix sometimes with mercury

If you type "german silver" into Google, you'll get at least five links on the first page of results which say quite clearly that german silver is a jeweller's alloy containing zero actual silver.

thanks for the info about tibetan silver, i'll look into that. i imagine that bullshit even be 999 pure bullshit, with maybe a grain or two of sand, so i think german silver can be 999 pure. or it might be plated in 999 pure silver and stamped accordingly. these items aren't just being misrepresented by the sellers - they are designed and manufactured expressly for such misrepresentation.

but on another note, i don't see any link to start a new thread, and this forum has some smart and interesting people i'd like to engage in some conversation.

Mate you are a prince amongst men, kudos for the public service.

This world needs more people who care.

besides here it's more thankless than you can imagine ... obviously people are informed while the ads are running but nobody about to bid on fake silver ever responded by supporting my ad (note, the price is $2, and if someone actually did pay would cost me in ebay and paypal fees) (which after 50 per month costs $.25 each to run, except today which is a free day) - once someone was so grateful that i notified her that she actually said if i was local she'd buy me dinner. so i said thanks, but actually, if you'd like you can sponsor one of my ads. as you can imagine i never heard from her again. another person was so grateful saying he got 'jipped' so first i corrected him saying that 'gyped' is a misnomer because the roma people were not from egypt, however, in any case, it is an insensitive word casting gypsies as thieves, but in any case i understood his point, and also invited him to contribute - it was then that he started calling me a PC nazi and all sorts of utterly nasty things. finally there's idiots who bid even on my ads, i mean, what are they thinking? so they end up costing me because i incur commissions, etc., and jeopardize my rating. but it's not unenjoyable.

still, how do i create a new post? is it maybe b/c i'm a newbie that i don't have that link?

on the home page there's a button near top left that says creat new thread/topic ( I think)

Good work on spotting the scams. Never heard of german silver. This is why i tend to stick to coins

German silver is also known as White Copper and was invented in German smelters in the 19th century i think, to mimic sterling silver or used as an alloy then plated in real silver. Its approx 60% Cu (Copper) - 20%Ni (Nickel) 20% Zn (Zinc) and may also contain a bit of Cassiterite (tin)

Its an interesting mix mineralogically

Nickel itself is mildly toxic and a known carcinogen, However it has hundreds of uses including alloys, Stainless steel, plate and coinage (shrapnel) including Australian small coins

Tibetan Silver, German Silver and even Mexican Silver have become misleading teams now a days. And it makes it very hard for new Silver collectors like me to buy silver with confidence. Staying informed in paramount to any investment, so hopefully this thread helps someone not get shafted. If not, bad feedback will get them thinking about selling it to you or anyone else if they have already hopefully..

Phillip
