1kg capsule that doesn't ... quite ... fit

Hi all

I picked up this 1kg Perth Mint coin today (year 2000), and noticed that the capsule is not thick enough to hold the coin properly:

It fits perfectly diameter-wise, but as you can see, it is too thin.

Measured with calipers, specs are fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what has gone on here? There is the odd very minor scratch on the coin, so it has been removed from it's capsule in the past.

Yeah my 1kg proofs and bullion coins are the same, unsure whether the mint just got this wrong or whether this is the way they are supposed to be so that you can open them... I did find it a bit strange though never really questioned it.
 
These capsules where made to house the 1/2kg coins. To save money they used it to house the 1kg till they stop the 1/2kg production... maybe.. I got a few from the last edition like these.

It's a lunar dragon with diamond eyes. I think i'll wait until i find my proper camera before taking a photo of it :)

I like the half kilo lunar of anything in the series . Sooo erm now we can buy products that come back to the mint from other years ?, is that right ??

The mint melts down everything it buys backnas far as I know.
 
I think it will eventually go into the trade section, to see how much bullion someone will part with for it.

Numismatics isn't my thing :)
 
It's got 160 milled edge serrations, which are 'interrupted'. Smooth then serrations, smooth then serrations.

According to the COA, anyway.
