This is a drive that needs you to keep your eye on the petrol level.

Have not done this trip in many years.

In my minds eye, I have a vision/memory of a certain image of a landscape.

Will head off for a day trip to see if this is the road that holds this certain memory.

Trip goes through New Norfolk, Westerway, Mt Field, Maydenna, then on to Strathgordon to the Gordon Dam

And will report on the level of water.

Will stop for a break at this shop which has a lovely river in the back yard.

Fill your tank in the city before you leave - surely your Liberty will do >600km on a tank?

In the context of the OP...it seems like boneyard is on a pleasure jaunt..with some kind of agenda...petrol prices...or just showing how nice his part of the world is

A few years ago, I would have been all over the state for a day trip.

The longest distance since then would be 50 ks from home.

So for me to do this journey is exciting as I plan.

Fill the themos with coffee, check the spare tyre, pack the music and the morning tea.

Pack the camera with recharged batteries a nd clean my sunglasses.

Leave the wife and kids at home and enjoy some fine counrty motoring.

Stopping where and when I want for as long as I want.

Good for you. The overland track is awesome. Make sure you have all the right gear as it can snow at any time. A Chinese guy died of hypothermia in January this year on the track.

Last week I drove my daughter 400km each way so she could compete in a 3km school cross country run... in one day. :|

Have no fear.... I've tried several times to run out of motion potion, but it seems the low fuel warning light is a mere highlighting to the fact that you will need fuel in the next hour or so! Almost a dare to keep on going

driving here is a bit different to the big island. With the constant cornering, breaking and accelerating we don't get far on a tank of petrol. The time we allow is some what longer on a drive as well.

I have always liked the Maydena shop for a feed and fuel on that drive, the locals can sure do with any cash that comes into town
