120k nugget found in Ballarat

I notice that the 7pm project is having a story tonight on "gold".... they reported last night about the big find and then now having their follow up story tonight...

here we go..another million people become experts on gold prospecting overnight. The salesmen will make a fortune in fiat then swap the trash for some poured pm bars!! lol

I should have dug that signal, it was so loud I was sure it was trash ......

The 156 ounce quartz containing about 76 ounces of gold is thought to have lay undiscovered on the river bed for more than 100 years.

Did somebody drop it in the river 100 years ago ????
I think it's been undiscovered for a lot longer than that.

I think they were referring to the fact that river had been prospected thoroughly 100 year back and the nugget got missed.

Maybe many unemployed folk will start the next gold rush in these rural areas.

Not mine, bugger it.

Stunning specimen piece. Plenty of Wow factor there alright. If anyone can buy it for $120 000, grab it! This is an extra rare nugget due to its massive size and the fact that most larger Victorian nuggets found have been melted down. I reckon $200 000 might be a lot closer to its market value. Be surprised if it shows up on ebay. :)

Gunna be like friggin Burke St up around some of my haunts. Might have to start detecting in parks instead so I can get away from the iminent rush. :(

Pretty much all of the findable gold in the Victorian goldfields is now on private land as the public land like state forests etc has been extensively fossicked.

Don't say that too loud or you will have all the property naysayers sceaming about greedy land owners

Kind Regards

just thinking, after one buying the metal detector, now can buy swimming gear for under water detecting :)

I have an Excalibur and have done a lot of Asia and left booty where it was in frustration on more than one occasion knowingly knowing that I was walking away from precious. If you have intentions of doing the surf at the beach or beyond its is somewhat more finicky than you might think tho not so bad if the ocean is like a mill pond so keep an eye out for the weather. Digging sand out of a hole whilst sand is running back in can be hard work. If you create a pvc foot trod scoop or a hand held rotary type jig to worm into the sand make sure the edges are sharp. Cheers :D

A good time to sell my brand new, unused, GP3000 perhaps? :)

Actually there is a measure of truth in that whilst in Hong Kong esp I was asked as much about the detector itself as I was the new found loot and sure I could have flogged a few off on the spot (Surprisingly many Asian people did not really understand what I was doing) and thought I worked for the military or the ilk. Ha ha its true there is no such thing as being an overnight expert and it takes awhile to calibrate ones ears into the instrument being used let alone the detector itself before efficient prospecting transpires. Like all things good patience with it pays off. The very first time I went out to test my new detector eons ago I had my steel cap boots on lol. What a wally eh. :D
