100 Oz Silver Bars why do all the experts hate them such?

TDR is the only way to fly. Just opening and closing a safe door is an exercise in OH&S - already had one minor workplace injury from the door!

Not going to discuss our storage arrangements in further detail beyond that on a public forum, other than to say there's far softer targets out there from both a physical and procedural perspective.

I hate the 100ozt cause I can't afford 'em. I also hate 'em cause they too big to flush down toilet. I also hate 'em cause you need a darn XRF and CRT to really know for sure if it wheel or knot.

XRF is next to useless for testing a large bar - see the video I did on a fake 100gm silver bar that passed XRF testing.
 
That is what I thought too.

Oops I brain fart.

CRT = was meant to be ultrasonic (or whatever it was they used to show the core of big bars on a monitor I forget and cant be stuff google).

This is interesting , does the xrf just scan the surface to a certain depth?

If that happens, finding a buyer for my two 100oz bars will be the least of my concerns.

So much for all the XRF testing many SS have talked about. 100gm is tiny. Maybe folks may just want to stick to testing the fractionals :/

EDIT: But isn't this one of the biggest problems with most metal stackers? ie: they just operate (continually it seems) on unproved & unchallenged assumptions. eg. witness the title of this thread. ** WHO ** are "all the experts" who hate 100 oz bars? And what qualifications do they have that makes them an expert?

Even heavy gold electroplated jewellery can trick an XRF.

Bars however (like the example in the video) can be plated thick enough so that they appear pure to an XRF.

That's one of the reasons many people prefer coins, more difficult & expensive to fake. We've seen counterfeit coins on SS fabricated from base metal, but how common are counterfeit coins which have a thin silver/gold plating?
