    Anybody buy today?

I got 3 x Sterling silver bowls for $50 from an auction in Ballarat. Pretty pleased with the score. Checked the hallmarks and got a little bonus providence. About 2 oz in melt and who knows how much antique premium. Pretty pleased for an auction noob. My missus bought an Art Deco bronze for the...

    Pre-decimal coin help

Agreed. I have collections of UNC threepences and have accumulated a lot of lower grades which are pretty useless but look good when you spill them into messy piles with big chunks of bullion in between. It feels very piratey and you can run your hands through them like sand and go "arrrh".

Off-grid suburb a 'perfect storm' for energy giants

Any downsides? Not sure yet. Cost maybe but lifespan is upwards of 20 years. Now, I have seen 2v Lead Acid flooded cells out in rural areas that were 20 years old and going OK but the guy who owned them assiduously maintained them and replaced the chemistry every so often. I can't see may...

Off-grid suburb a 'perfect storm' for energy giants

I work in the renewables biz as a Solar Engineer. We are selling Enphase batteries fast and the take-up is expected to ramp up abruptly from now on. I'm not a fan of off-gridding in suburbia. Most people can't energy manage and you absolutely need to do this well to be off-grid. I prefer...

I have determined the perfect stacker stack

1kg Lunar (one only of each) 10oz Bars & Lunars (lots) 1oz Kooks & Pandas (about 15 of each) Don't have a fractionl strategy yet just a bunch Pre-1946 Pre-Decimals. Do you need a fractional strategy? No more numi speculation for me in the stack. If I collect, I collect outside my stack...

    Unallocated Strategy

Agreed. It took me a lot of thought to hit the button on the unallocated but I have a good stack of physical in case of emergency and if I trust GS that it's all backed then unallocated makes sense to me since I live in a house the size of a midget submarine and although it's heavily fortified...

    Unallocated Strategy

I have just dipped my toe into unallocated at Goldstackers. Storage is now a problem for me and I will hang on to my apocalypse stash. I am looking for different strategies in managing unallocated holdings. I will use my account as a savings account each week and as I am in a position to monitor...

    Is $22 the new bottom?

China cannot call in its US debt at once or it will collapse its labor rate advantage and exports will dry up. It is doing it gradually by sloughing off bonds bit by bit and accumulating gold. At the same time it sets up the AIIB to solidify the BRICS group and isolate the US which it has done...

On buying low and selling high

It's always good to frequently revisit the philosophical motivations for why you do things. In the last few days, I've started to drastically rethink what I'm doing. For instance, I spent ages looking at ways to flip my stack using the GSR only to find that it could take ages for a suitable...

    Advice on Proofs

OK, let's take out the R word. And for that matter, Scarce. How about we just pretend the figures are irrelevant and look at the problem. I'll make it easier: circulation of coinX <<<< every other year circulation of proofX = every other year does proofX derive the same scarcity that coin x...

    Advice on Proofs

I need some advice on relative values. So a 2011 10 cent piece is rare because only 1.7million were minted. But there were 40000 mint sets made and these are not rare compared to other mint sets. There were also 27000 baby proofs sets for the same year so my question relates to the relative...

Today I found in my change...............

Score!! My missus now routinely checks her change for me and today she found a 2015 $2 coloured ANZAC and an uncoloured $2 poppy as well as a Federation 2001 50c piece in appalling condition. Not bad. I put the fiddy into a parking meter. Kept the other two though.

Do you do your own tax?

I don't do my own law and I don't do my own tax. Agree totally that you should have a good lawyer and a good accountant. My accountant has mystical properties that astound me. He made my HECS debt disappear, gets me returns I couldn't imagine getting myself and keeps me on the straight and...

What will be good assets to grab when GFC II hits? And how to prepare?

Zimbabwe style collapse might require a good stack of 9mm and 7.62mm bi-metal rounds. I would also like to extend my stack of antibiotics, analgesics and other medications. The most over-looked assets for the prepper and probably worth more than pm's in a serious situation. I can't go more than...

Sovs versus equivalent gold bullion coin/round

Thanks guys. I really don't need another thing to collect. I can totally see the appeal, though, but I have to be strong. Pre-decimals have already done enough damage.

Sovs versus equivalent gold bullion coin/round

Had a bit of a search but didn't see a definitive answer. Suppose I had about $500 lying around doing nothing and I fancied turning it into a bit of gold just because. So I go to my favourite online broker who has a bunch of sovs around this price and also a bunch of Kangaroos and other...

Anyone buy today when silver had a $14 handle?

Got my 1kg Goat at the bottom. Didn't care about the dollar; watched the spot climb up once GS took my money. Can't help thinking I'm in some way responsible for the rally. Gold Stackers needs to open Saturdays so I can wear my goat like a brooch.
