Personally, I prefer coins to be in capsules, to prevent accidental damage (scratches, scuff marks and dings). Its a lot easier to re-sell a kook coin that carries a premium if it isn't damaged ( bullion or proof )

Like with most coin, it all comes down to condition when determining a price. I would be taking the 1888 to a reputable coin dealer in your area to have the coin assess .....this should give you a better idea on the value
